Carlos Riz Safón

Carlos Montoya, (born Dec. 13, 1903, Madrid, Spain—died March 3, 1993, Wainscott, N.Y., U.S.), Spanish-born American flamenco guitarist and the first to present that style as serious music to concert audiences.

Carlos Eduardo Lyra Barbosa (Rio de Janeiro, 11 de maio de 1933) é um cantor, compositor e violonista brasileiro. Junto com Roberto Menescal, era uma das figuras jovens da bossa nova. Fez parte de uma bossa nova mais ativista, propondo o retorno do ritmo às suas raízes no samba.

From Ipanema Beach to Corcovado mountain, the natural beauty of Rio de Janeiro is self-evident. It’s almost as if the postcard itself was invented to honor this coastal city, with its lagoons, forests, and tropical climate. But the same could also be said for the album, as this city has birthed musical styles such as bossa nova, samba and choro. Indeed, elements of these musical styles can be traced to Africa, but there is no mistaking that Rio’s artistic identity is partly defined by these rich genres.

Per voi ardo presents a large number of Italian madrigals in the form they are preserved in Spain in the vihuela books of Enríquez de Valderrábano (1547), Diego Pisador (1552) and Miguel de Fuenllana (1554). They are complemented by settings by Alonso Mudarra, original compositions like Milán’s, using Italian texts of the same flavour, and with accompaniments that parallel the arranged madrigals in many ways. Antonio Carlos Jobim's Finest Hour is an excellent collection of jazz bossanova recordings by one of the leaders of the bossanova sound. Jobim's solo and accompaniment with vocalist Astrud Gilberto and legendary saxophonist, Stan Getz, offers a melodic and sensuous effect to his lush Brazilian sound. The cd's crispsness makes the recordings timeless, but not without a thought of 1960s cocktail sounding nostalgia (dependent on your age, these are tunes you heard your father play on the good ol' hi-fi system). The songs make you imagine you're on a beach with the palm trees gently swaying back and forth, or simply lounging on the patio listening to tracks, such as the all too familiar, "The Girl From Impanema," my favorite version of "Meditation," or the delicious hipster trappings of "Desfinado" with Getz's exceptional sax solo. Finest Hour will not disappoint those listeners looking for the quiet jazz sounds that whisper in your ear or simply let you relax.
