Limited edition box set contains the albums In the Aeroplane Over the Sea LP and On Avery Island 2-LP, a 12" picture disc pressing of Live at Jittery Joe's, two 10" vinyl EPs, three 7" vinyl singles, and two folded posters plus other inserts. The two full-length records that Jeff Mangum made as Neutral Milk Hotel sound both in and out of time. Like translations of a shared subconscious, 1996's On Avery Island and 1998's In the Aeroplane Over the Sea give voice to the perennial spirit of youthful epiphany, of beginning to see the world clearly, to process and express it- no matter when you encounter them. With lo-fi indie rock, accordion, singing saw, tape collages, the so-called "zanzithophone" and beyond, Neutral Milk Hotel created an eternal entry into their Elephant 6 scene and an enduring feeling of possibility.

Although the symphonies, string quartets and concertos represent the core of his achievement, Shostakovich had wide sympathies across the musical spectrum: hence his oft-repeated comment that he enjoyed all music from Bach to Offenbach. All the works on this album – which opens with a suite from the ballet The Bolt (the scenario of industrial espionage is a pretext for music drawing on circus-like farce) and concludes with his orchestrations of Tea for Two – attest to a composer who entered into the spirit of ‘light music’ with enjoyment and enthusiasm.

This is a set with the Modern Jazz Quartet. The choice of material and its order of appearance approximates a set you might hear if you were listening to the group at one of America’s leading jazz rooms. All the pieces display different use of contrapuntal technique. The record features works, "Ralph's New Blues" which starts off the set, "All of You" from Cole Porter's musical Silk Stockings, and Sigmund Romberg's "Softly, As in a Morning Sunrise" from New Moon. Originally recorded in 1955, the six song set has been remastered by Concord's original engineer Rudy Van Gelder.

Kenny Burrell performs with Coleman Hawkins and his rhythm section. Burrell is in optimum form on all the numbers and in their varied expressions. The leading neo-bop guitarist, he is capable of a far reaching range of expression. His chords can be as lush as, say Johnny Smith’s can, but his lines are always rhythmically spirited by a very powerful jazz energy and blues-in-formed charge that I think no contemporary guitarist can equal.

"Death Magnetic" was the band's first album to be produced by Rick Rubin, making this their first album since 1991's "Metallica" (Usually known as "The Black Album") not to be produced by Bob Rock. The album received mostly positive reviews upon release, with critics describing it as a return to the musical style of their early albums. "Death Magnetic" is the band's first album to feature bassist Robert Trujillo.

Red Garland and Miles Davis had a symbiotic relationship. Red was such an important cog in the Davis quintet as a soloist, interactive accompanist, and keeper of the repertory. Being in Miles' group gave Garland the exposure he otherwise would not have gotten. Once Garland's talent as a pianist, with a boundless repository of material in his head, was established, Prestige's Bob Weinstock signed him to a contract as a recording leader in his own right. With his Davis section-mate, Paul Chambers, on bass, and New York drummer Arthur Taylor, Garland forned a trio that met quite often in rudy Van Gelder's studio. "Groovy" was the third in Red's trio series for Prestige and it has the usual fine mix of jazz standards, ballad standards, blues ballads, and just plain blues. It is an object lesson in finding and maintaining a groove.

The superb Richard Casey, most notable for his recording for Prima Facie of the complete Works of Peter Maxwell Davies, explores an altogether different territory in the music of Paul Newland. Paul paints a vivid but bleak and minimalist landscape in his almost impenetrable music. Paul Newland is a composer and performer with interests in acoustic, collaborative, interdisciplinary (particularly dance) and site-specific work that invites close listening to sound through patterning, extended duration, amplification and slowing of often sparse, pared down materials making use of both traditionally notated and open scores.

Ogni nuovo progetto e registrazione di Enrico Intra ha sempre una sua propria e autonoma peculiarità artistica; Liebman meets Intra Live non fa certo eccezione. Eppure, già dopo il primo ascolto – ed è risaputo come i lavori di Intra per essere apprezzati in pieno richiedano diversi ascolti – sembra che quest'ultimo lavoro si ritagli un posto di rilievo all'interno della pur vasta e varia produzione del pianista e compositore milanese.

This is a 'Sony Classical' re-issue to mark the canonization of Pope John Paul II on April 27. To honor him, Plácido Domingo will perform repertoire from this album at the ceremony in Poznan, Poland.

Guitarist Boogaloo Joe Jones embraced the sound of soul-jazz in the late 1960s, with this session of mostly original songs typical of the genre. Featuring Rusty Bryant on sax, Charles Earland on organ and Bernard Purdie behind the drums, this release includes two bonus tracks, the single versions of Right On and Someday We’ll Be Together.
