"Professor Satchafunkilus and the Musterion of Rock" is the twelfth studio album by guitarist Joe Satriani, released in April 2008 through Epic Records. The album reached No. 89 on the U.S. Billboard 200 and remained on that chart for two weeks, as well as reaching the top 100 in four other countries. The album's title has two meanings: the first part is a homage to Satriani's nickname of "Satch", while "Musterion" is a Greco–Biblical word meaning "hidden thing", "secret", or "mystery".

"Mr. Hands" was originally released in 1980 and is Herbie Hancock's thirtieth album. It was one of the last albums on which Hancock played more "straight" electric jazz before moving on to focus more on R&B influences. The track "4 A.M." features the late great bassist Jaco Pastorius.

Kenny Burrell performs with Coleman Hawkins and his rhythm section. Burrell is in optimum form on all the numbers and in their varied expressions. The leading neo-bop guitarist, he is capable of a far reaching range of expression. His chords can be as lush as, say Johnny Smith’s can, but his lines are always rhythmically spirited by a very powerful jazz energy and blues-in-formed charge that I think no contemporary guitarist can equal.

In 1966 producer Don Schlitten imported Sonny Criss to New York for a recording session with a rhythm section handpicked for their ability to swing and for their understanding of the bebop methods that drove Criss. Determined to enhance the career of an alto saxophonist he considered an overlooked genius of the modern era, Schlitten thus provided the circumstance for one of Criss's great albums. To many listeners, This Is Criss! was a revelation; it presented a fully matured soloist who had overcome the uneven conception and time problems that many of them remembered from his brilliant but erratic earlier work. Highlights include the grit and emotional directness of his playing on the blues and his inventiveness on the beautiful and harmonically demanding "Skylark".
