We shall probably never know when it was that a human voice first joined a musical instrument in song. Classical antiquity was familiar with the combination, and though we may feel that the divine Apollo with his golden lyre is not convincing evidence, the poets who accompanied their lyrics with a lyre or kithara in Olympic contests are historically attested. The biblical David with his harp, singing to allay the wrath of King Saul, became the symbol of the human and the divine principles in art. From time immemorial the human voice, a gift from above – from God, Nature or the Fates – accompanied by a musical instrument devised by man (perhaps to feel himself closer to the Creator), has given expression to the inexpressible – the very essence of music.

Water, in all its myriad of moods. Just imagine… the sea, waves reflecting the shimmering silver and gold of the sun’s rays; a babbling brook, its bed bejewelled with iridescent stones; deep water radiating a soft, serene, blue light; raindrops falling from a pallid sky like tears shed by a heart rent with sorrow…The young Latvian pianist, Arta Arnicane, lends all this to her grand piano, with works by Chopin, Debussy, Grieg, Liszt and Ravel as well as Berio, Kepitis and Žilinskis and many more. Communication with the audience, as well as talent for creating a special concert atmosphere have taken the young Latvian pianist Arta Arnicane to a large variety of performance venues across the world.

The new Czech Ensemble Baroque CD with a selection of music grown in piarist halls in the 18th century. The Czech Ensemble Baroque discovers the works of Antonín Mashat, whose work falls into the Baroque period of the first half of the 18th century, and above all Antonín Brossmann. He also implements galaxy style and classicism in the Baroque style. The new recording confirms the enthusiasm, the esprit, a kind of "cognitive" sign of the Czech Ensemble Baroque, which has been led by its founder, conductor Roman Válek together with his wife Tereza for twenty years.
