After Cher's incredibly successful period in the 1960’s both as a solo artist and as part of the Sonny & Cher duo, "Cherilyn La Pier" as she was born, moved labels to MCA records and released her first album, simply called "Chér". Produced by the the legendary Snuff Garrett, it included Cher's first solo #1 hit, "Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves", which topped the U.S. charts at the end of 1971, reaching #4 in the U.K. She followed that with another track from the album, "The Way Of Love" which went into the American Top 10, staying in the charts for ten weeks. The album proved that Cher was a force to be reckoned with on her own. She released her second MCA album in 1972, "Foxy Lady" included Cher's third U.S. hit of the 1970’s, "Living In A House Divided", as well as material by Neil Sedaka and Howard Greenfield. Sonny Bono also contributed and co-produced one of the tracks.
