Primarily based in Leeds, The Lewis Express is comprised of many of the musicians that have graced previous ATA releases: George Cooper, Piano (Abstract Orchestra) Neil Innes, Bass (The Sorcerers, The Magnificent Tape Band, Tony Burkill), Sam Hobbs, Drums (Dread Supreme, Tony Burkill, Matthew Bourne) and Pete Williams, Percussion (The Sorcerers, The Magnificent Tape Band, Tony Burkill). Recorded over an intense two-day session by the band of the same name, “The Lewis Express” is a nod to the classic soul jazz recordings of The Young Holt Trio / Young Holt Unlimited and Ramsey Lewis, from who this group take their name. But, delivered with a distinctly European feel. As with many of the classic Ramsey Lewis cuts this album was recorded live, capturing the rich inter-relationship between the players and leaving in some of that chunky room noise, lending the album a sound that’s as thick as a steak and raw as a carrot.

Now over 20 years into their career, Latin-funk-big beat fusionists Skeewiff return with an album that touches on multiple music bases. The album opens with 'Starsky & June', an energetic slice of car chase funk that owes a considerable debt of inspiration to Isaac Hayes' classic 'Theme From Shaft'. Elsewhere, rapper Baby Bam guests on three tracks that will keep the hip-hop lovers happy, while jazzier flavas can be found on another trio of cuts featuring acid jazz survivors Brand New Heavies. One of these latter three, 'Cosmic Space Jam', is a particular standout, as is the rambunctious, 1920s-inspired 'Cheeky Charlie'.

The Electric Toilet led by guitarist Dave Hall, came from Memphis and their sole album includes the awesome track "Within Your State Of Mind". Driving bluesy LP with southern twang, growly lead vocal with black baptist church choir style backing, sound effects and trippy acid guitar work. Two members died in a car crash within months of its completion and the group broke up. A stone US '60s heavy psych album!!!

The enormous success of Andrea Bocelli has ensured that no matter how fallow the ground might be for the major classical labels, there is always enough fertile soil left in the garden to cultivate a new pop tenor. The single-named Vittorio, short for Vittorio Grigolo, is Decca's new flavor of the month among tenors. Decca's one-time advocacy of Juan Diego Flórez was something to applaud, as this tenor is a truly fabulous singer, if not entirely suitable for the legions of soap opera fans who also love Bocelli.

In 2019, a year before the onset of the pandemic and three years before the full-scale war in Ukraine broke out, we released Illuminated Silence. This was the first album of a new trio consisting of the young Japanese-born, Irish-based pianist and composer Izumi Kimura and the greats of the improvised music world Barry Guy and Gerry Hemingway. The album was very much liked by listeners and I heard from many of them the question whether there is a chance that this formation will survive, because if the band debuts with such a great album, what will happen when it becomes a working band? Today, five years later we know well that the trio Kimura / Guy / Hemingway is working and bringing a new recording, this time a studio recording made in mid-December of 2023. It is with great pride that we place it in your hands - Six Hands Open As One.

American musician, bandleader, producer and songwriter (born January 29, 1937 in Mount Pleasent, New York - died November 05, 1990 in New York City, New York (cancer). A pianist, vibraphonist, and singer, he could also play the accordion, cello, clarinet, and double bass. As a bandleader, he did sessions for Verve, ABC-Paramount, Bethlehem, and Musicmasters. As a songwriter, he won a Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Composition for the song "A Taste of Honey" which he co-wrote with Ric Marlow. He he also co-wrote the song "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" with Bob Russell.
