Colosseum II Wardance

One of the biggest festivals to welcome Colosseum to it's site in a national park on the picturesque island of Ruissalo.

These historic recordings capture the group, led by drummer Jon Hiseman, performing at the Boston Tea Party, one of the most important rock venues on the East Coast. It was 13 August, 1969 when Colosseum performed a wide range of exciting material, including 'Butty's Blues' featuring their 19 year-old lead guitarist James Litherland and 'The Valentyne Suite', a major work by keyboardist and composer Dave Greenslade.

Following their successful appearance here on the Golden Rose TV Festival in April 1969, the band was invited back to play the Montreux Jazz Festival in June to a more youthful audience. The hot sunny weather saw the boys play an impromptu afternoon matinee by the pool, which culminated in a topless Dick Heckstall-Smith diving in to cool down! During that time bootlegs were a big part of the scene. Repertoire Records has curated the best of the best and these albums are now 'officially' available for digital download for the first time.

The fourth, long-lost album by Colosseum with performances from Supershow plus 2 tracks from a short film that was released in 1970.

Colosseum’s fiery brand of progressive jazz rock was hugely popular on the late 60s live music scene and so it was no surprise when they were invited to play at one of the world’s biggest jazz festivals, held annually in Montreux, Switzerland.

Musicians for this performance were Herbie Hancock on keyboards, Freddie Hubbard on trumpet, Tony Williams on drums, Ron Carter on double bass, and Wayne Shorter on tenor and soprano saxophones. Originally the album was released in late 1977 only in Japan by Columbia.
