The film's plot is continually narrated by Johnny Farrell (Glenn Ford), a small-time gambler newly arrived in Buenos Aires, Argentina. When he wins a lot of money cheating at craps, he has to be rescued from a robbery attempt by a complete stranger, Ballin Mundson (George Macready). Mundson tells him about an illegal high-class casino, but warns him not to practice his skills there. Farrell ignores his advice, cheats at blackjack, and is taken by two men to see the casino's owner, who turns out to be Mundson. Farrell talks Mundson into hiring him and quickly gains his confidence. However, the unimpressed washroom attendant, Uncle Pio (Steven Geray), keeps calling him "peasant".

A story of two motorcycle racers, the inept, unsuspecting Little Faus (Michael J.Pollard) and the opportunistic, womanising Halsey Knox (Robert Redford).This is a real forgotten gem from the early seventies. Redford gives one of his best performances as a cold-hearted motorcycle racer. Director Furie, always strong on visual appeal, makes the most of this tale of a loser who fools no one with his easy charm. The supporting cast is fine, particularly Hutton and Pollard. Depressing, with a ring of truth to the characterizations; you won't soon forget Redford's sad smile at the climax of the film. First rate.

For the last 30 years I have studied the art of protection training dogs. I was a police K9 handler for 10 years, and was chairman of the training committee for the WI police dog association for a number of those years. I have bred German Shepherds for police service work for 28 years. During this time I have bred over 350 litters of working dogs. I have dogs from my kennel working in law enforcement, Search and Rescue and competing in Schutzhund all over this country. No one I know in the United States can make these claims.
