Milt Jackson and Oscar Peterson are two of the most formidable swingers in jazz. When they collaborated, the swing was more than doubled. This concert under Jackson's leadership at the 1975 Montreux Jazz Festival reunited them for the first time in years. The recording captures their pleasure at performing together again and the excitement and appreciation of the Montreux audience in hearing them. The album is dominated by the exultation of their playing in up-tempo numbers like "Mack the Knife," Lee Morgan's blues "Speed Ball," and a brisk "Stella by Starlight." They provide contrast in a pair of superb ballad performances on "Everything Must Change" and "Nature Boy." Peterson achieves on Ahmad Jamal's "Night Mist Blues" an intensity remarkable even for him. Peterson's bass stalwart Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen and drummer Mickey Roker, a Jackson favorite, join in the fun.

After extensive touring throughout 2022 we received a call to play at London Jazz Festival at Signature Brew in Haggerston. Since the venue is predominately an indie/rock venue we decided to stay away from repertoire and use the opportunity to channel the environment by allowing maximum spontaneity, working in the spacce with the audience and each other, emphasizing the uniqueness of each moment by surrendering to collective spontaneous composition. This album represents an experiment, an open laboratory where audience and musicians are invited to take a risk and embrace a balancing act where no one knows what awaits around the next corner. Come on a journey with us and travel into a parallel musical universe.

For Monk fans, these Mo-Fis are must-haves. Wow! After releasing so many mediocre rock albums, Mobile Fidelity came through with not one but TWO shiny gold CDs by the enigmatic, lovable Thelonious Monk (accompanied in these live recordings by Charlie Rouse on sax, John Ore on bass, and Frank Dunlop on drums)….

This edition presents, for the first time ever on CD, Dizzy Gillespie's complete performance at the 1961 Monterey Jazz Festival. While humorously introduced by Diz as “A Musical Safari”, the set is a mixture of the repertoire the quintet was playing during that period, including an excursion into the realm of bossa nova. The quintet features the wonderful Leo Wright and Argentinean pianist Lalo Schifrin, as well as singer Joe Carroll on one track.

This live recording, documenting their first performance as a quintet, was mixed by DeJohnette and Manfred Eicher at New York’s Avatar Studio.

This LP features guitarist Joe Pass playing 11 unaccompanied solos live at the 1975 Montreux Jazz Festival. Prior to Pass' work, one rarely ever heard a guitarist play anything by himself unless it was a lyrical ballad. In the years before Stanley Jordan emerged with his tapping keyboard approach, Pass demonstrated that the guitar could be its own orchestra while using conventional (although highly developed) technique. This excellent set is highlighted by "You Are the Sunshine of My Life," "More Than You Know," and three of the guitarist's basic originals. ~ AllMusic Review by Scott Yanow

This DVD celebrates Chris Barber's 50th anniversary as a professional musician. Recorded at Germany's Hot Jazz Festival 2002, he presents his eleven-piece Big Chris Barber Band. One of the leaders of England's early-'60s trad jazz movement, Chris Barber (a solid trombonist) began leading his own bands in 1948. In 1954, trumpeter Pat Halcox joined Barber, and with the later additions of clarinetist Monty Sunshine, banjoist/singer Lonnie Donegan, and blues singer Ottilie Patterson, Barber had an all-star crew. Sunshine's hit version of 'Petite Fleur' made both Barber and the clarinetist into big names. Although his group was based in Dixieland, Barber has long been open-minded towards ragtime, swing, mainstream, blues, R&B, and rock.
