Ancestral marks a profound metamorphosis for master saxophonist John O’Gallagher. He cast off his old skin, fundamentally altering his studies, homeland, and life, thereby charting a new future. Recorded at Sound on Sound Studios in Montclair, New Jersey, in January 2024, Ancestral was influenced, in part, by O’Gallagher’s PhD studies into the music of John Coltrane, and reunites the versatile reeds player with guitarist Ben Monder while, notably, featuring the first-ever recorded collaboration between master drummers Andrew Cyrille and Billy Hart.

A year after their astonishing debut, Supersister released another album. And it was another classic. The album contains four tracks of excellent Canterbury flavoured music. The shifts in pace and melody are less frantic than on the debut and there are more vocals.

Stings is the latest album from the one and only Kamaal Williams, marking another groundbreaking chapter in his genre-blurring musical journey. Her new album “Philos”– which she calls an evocation of her “love for time, space and sound” –is every bit as inventive, elegant and transcendent as her debut.

During Coltrane’s Atlantic years, he made important recordings such as "Giant Steps" and "My Favorite Things", recorded albums with Milt Jackson, Don Cherry, and Eric Dolphy and made his debut on the soprano saxophone. The Penguin Guide to Jazz assigned its 'Crown' award to the box set, in addition to giving it a four-star rating (of a possible four).

World jazz in motion. Nguyên Lê's music is in constant change. Since over 30 years the French guitarist with Vietnamese roots combines jazz and worldmusic in a unique fashion. "Streams" continues this tradition, but unlike Lê's recent projects, with a stronger jazz-focus but nevertheless inspired by Indian and North African rhythms, Vietnamese melodies, oriental accents and un-heard, imaginary folk music.
