Each volume in the 'Portraits' series is devoted to a French composer who has now largely been forgotten. With performances by many talented artists, it presents a panorama of his works. The 'Portrait' of Félicien David aims to complement the discography already available with world premiere recordings of the composer's works. Among these are a glimpse of his orchestral output, with the Symphony no. 3 and the Overture to his opéra-comique La Perle du Brésil, the work that really launched David on his operatic career.

Corridor will release "Mimi", the Montreal band's new album, worldwide on Sub Pop. The eight-track album, which includes the highlights "Jump Cut", "Mon Argent" and "Mourir Demain", was produced by Corridor and Joojoo Ashworth (Dummy, Automatic) at Studio Gamma in Montreal. All songs on "Mimi" were composed by Corridor, the lyrics were written by guitarist and singer Jonathan Robert.

Bully burst onto the scene in 2015 with their critically acclaimed album Feels Like. Today the band announces their Sub Pop debut Losing, and share lead track “Feel The Same.”

Fire It Up is American musician Rick James' third studio album, originally released on the Motown sub-label Gordy Records. Includes the hit singles "Fire it up", "Love Gun", and "Come into My Life". Rick James's third album in 18 months may have spread the funk a little thin (or saturated the market), since Fire It Up was not as effective as his first two efforts. The usual mix of rock and R&B had some disco added, which dulled the music's edge and made it more formulaic. At the same time, James's single-entendre come ons, notably the album's biggest single, "Love Gun," were beginning to sound less provocative than just smutty. James had all the weapons for success in his arsenal, but he hadn't yet figured out a unified plan of attack, and Fire It Up was a holding action.

Sounds like a mix of Thom Yorke, Burial, Nils Frahm, all swirled together in a colorful yet creamy mix. A blend of Emikas neoclassical descending melodies, signature breathy, female vocals, icey pianos, heavy sub-bass vibrations and layered Hazy beats. Sat between her life in moving-boxes, wedged between them surrounding her upright piano in an unfurnished empty-sounding room in her in-laws house.

The Great Otis Redding Sings Soul Ballads, simply referred to as Soul Ballads or Sings Soul Ballads, is the second studio album by American soul singer-songwriter Otis Redding, released in 1965. The album was one of the first issued by Volt Records, a sub-label of Stax Records, and Redding's first on the new label.

A platinum-selling singer, Esther Phillips had a long and storied career and all of her recordings for KUDU (sub-label of CTI) have something nice on them, but this is probably the best one. The credits for “From A Whisper To A Scream“, Esther’s 1972 Kudu debut - considered by many to be her finest album for the label - lists such renowned players as Hank Crawford on sax, Eric Gale and Cornell Dupree on guitar, Bernard Purdie on drums, Richard Tee on keyboards and Gordon Edwards on bass. Also enlisting the cream of background singers (Joshie Armstead, Hilda Harris and Tasha Thomas) giving Esther just the right vocal cushion for her blues-tinged interpretations of works by everyone from poet/singer Gil Scott-Heron and the great Marvin Gaye to New Orleans legend Allen Toussaint and soul man Eddie Floyd.

In one sense, it’s easy for artists—songwriters, specifically—to express their feelings in their work. After all, that’s what the lyrics are for! But it’s much harder to convey emotional energy in how you play, slash at the guitar, and the structure of the music itself.

With 37 confirmed trio sonatas to his credit, Giuseppe Tartini is the most important Italian composer of his generation for this type of repertoire. It may seem odd therefore that these works have been so sorely neglected; indeed, as of 2022 only around 20 per cent of the repertoire had been recorded and a critical edition had yet to be published.
