"Le plus gros bosseur dans le show business". James Brown en était fier de ce titre. Gros bosseur, d'abord, pour ne pas dire tyran invétéré, comme quelqu'un qui collait des amendes à ses musiciens s'ils avaient le malheur de sortir du rythme. Le Show, ensuite. Pour le "Soul Brother n°1" le spectacle était sacré, qu'il joue devant 20 ou 10 000 personnes. Et puis le business, évidemment, ces millions de dollars accumulés en grappillant le moindre centime qui lui était dû, sur ses droits d'auteur et ses concerts.

Tony Rome is an ex-cop turned private eye in Miami Beach. For $200 he returns a young woman to her father's house after she passes out in a seedy hotel, and he keeps the hotel's name out of it. Trouble is, she's missing a diamond pin, and tough guys show up at Tony's boat looking for it. When the pin does turn up, it's fake, so the girl's father, a wealthy builder, hires Tony to find out what happened to the real stones. Bodies pile up, Tony suspects the builder's trophy wife, and he's also looking for a mysterious guy named Nimmo who used to date Ann Archer, a stunning redhead Tony meets at the builder's. Can Tony sort it out before too many die, and what about Ann?

Tony Rome is a miami based detective who while diving in the ocean finds the body of a young woman. He is hired by Gronsky to find her killer. Tony has to sift through a stack of suspects, plus trying to elude the police.

Documentary-style prologue follows training of O.S.S. agents for WWII work behind enemy lines. One of the group is a German "mole;" leaders Gibson and Sharkey are aware of this and scheme to feed him false info about the invasion of Europe, while the real agents go to France to find a secret V-2 rocket depot. But the German spy outsmarts them and rejoins his people knowing too much; Bob Sharkey takes the risk of going in after him.

Former documentary director George Lacombe was at his professional peak in the early 1950s, as witness Lacombe's excellent Prelude a la Gloire. Famed symphony conductor Roberto Benzi stars as Roberto, a young bricklayer who aspires to a musical career. Discovered by ageing orchestra leader Marachal (Debucourt), Roberto is groomed as Marachal's protegee. The protagonist then falls into the hands of a less-talented composer (Paul Bernard) and his opportunistic wife (Andre Le Gail), who hope to exploit Roberto for their own gain. While the dramatic scenes in Prelude a la Gloire are entertaining enough, the musical sequences approach brilliance

Menacé en Algérie, Ismaël émigre en France, le temps que ceux qu¹il fuit l¹oublient. Il raconte son parcours clandestin sous la forme d¹un conte biblique, l¹histoire de Jonas dans la baleine. Ailleurs en France, un vieil agriculteur perd son plus jeune fils. Ses trois enfants l'aident à traverser l¹épreuve des funérailles, mais le vieux père sombre dans une sorte d'indifférence mélancolique, perdant peu à peu la force de vivre. Ces deux histoires ne se rencontrent pas.
