Creedence Clearwater Revival was an American rock band that recorded and performed from 1959 to 1972 under various names before settling on Creedence Clearwater Revival in 1967. In early songs (“Born On The Bayou”, etc.), CCR created a kind of legend of “simple guys from the good old American South,” which was matched by vocalist John Fogerty’s deliberately blurred pronunciation and the stage persona of the musicians. In the general range of “classic rock” groups, the ensemble, in addition, stood out for its outwardly simple, but masterfully stylized lyrics, rich in social observations and political statements, in particular about the Vietnam War (“Fortunate Son”, “Run Through The Jungle”). Musically, they spanned roots rock, blues rock, southern rock, country rock and blue-eyed soul.

Chronicle, Vol. 1 contains every one of Creedence Clearwater Revival's original 19 hit singles – including "Proud Mary," "Bad Moon Rising," "Green River," "Down on the Corner," "Travelin' Band," "Up Around the Band," and "Have You Ever Seen the Rain" – plus "I Heard It Through the Grapevine," which became a hit at the same time this double-record compilation was released. The compact disc edition is hampered by the inclusion of the full-length, 11-minute album version of "I Heard It Through the Grapevine"; its presence slows down the momentum of the collection considerably. Chronicle, Vol. 2 effectively compiles all of the highlights from Creedence Clearwater Revival's career that weren't on the first volume. All of the singles were included on Chronicle, Vol. 1, so Chronicle, Vol. 2 is comprised solely of album tracks.

CD COLLECTION OF RARE LIVE & STUDIO PERFORMANCES This 3 CD Collection features live and studio recordings broadcast across FM radio during their short but dynamic tenure, all of which remain among the finest shows and sessions they ever performed. Disc One contains the group s full set from the legendary Woodstock Festival in 1969, while the second CD has their performance at the final concert at Bill Graham s Fillmore West, in July 1971. The third disc features a bit of an oddity, albeit a rare and delightful oddity, with a jam session the band took part in at Fantasy Studios on 30th July 1970, when they were joined by Booker T & The MGs, for what was clearly one hell of a musical party.

In 2000, Fantasy finally treated the Creedence Clearwater Revival catalog with the respect it deserved, remastering the entire catalog and issuing them in lavish editions with rich liner notes and slipcases. So, when they decided to release a "complete recorded works" box set a year later, the results weren't quite as revelatory as they may have been, since even if this was remastered again, it's hard for most listeners to notice the difference between this and the previous material, and all the liner notes – from such luminaries as Dave Marsh, Ben Fong-Torres, Ed Ward, Stanley Booth, and Robert Christgau – are printed as the liners here, meaning that for the hardcore who bought the whole catalog a year before, this is almost anti-climatic…

"Chronicle" contains every one of Creedence Clearwater Revival's original 19 hit singles – including "Proud Mary," "Bad Moon Rising," "Green River," "Down on the Corner," "Travelin' Band," "Up Around the Band," and "Have You Ever Seen the Rain" – plus "I Heard It Through the Grapevine," which became a hit at the same time this double-record compilation was released. It's a lean, concise collection that tells you everything you need to know about Creedence. Several of the band's individual albums are essential, but Chronicle is not only an excellent introduction to the group, it offers definitive proof that the group was one of the definitive singles' bands of the late '60s. Rarely has a greatest- hits collection been so well-assembled.

Exclusive Import only 52-track, three-disc collection pressed on Gold CD's! Includes all of their Top-10 hits and key album tracks from their albums released during their peak years from 1967 to 1972. Unquestionably one of the greatest American rock bands ever, Creedence Clearwater Revival will best be remembered for their unique bayou sound popularized in songs like 'Proud Mary' and 'Green River.' Although their music evoked the raw, gospel-tinged sound of the rural South, Doug Clifford, Stu Cook, and Tom and John Fogerty actually hailed from El Cerrito, California, a small town near Berkeley. Back in 1960, while in junior high school, the boys formed a band called Tommy Fogerty & the Blue Velvets and spent much of their time practicing in the Fogertys' garage. Packaged in a double-size jewel case which is housed in a slipcase. Fantasy.
