Ella Jane Fitzgerald (April 25, 1917 – June 15, 1996) was an American jazz singer sometimes referred to as the First Lady of Song, Queen of Jazz, and Lady Ella. She was noted for her purity of tone, impeccable diction, phrasing, intonation, and a "horn-like" improvisational ability, particularly in her scat singing. After tumultuous teenage years, Fitzgerald found stability in musical success with the Chick Webb Orchestra, performing across the country but most often associated with the Savoy Ballroom in Harlem. Fitzgerald's rendition of the nursery rhyme "A-Tisket, A-Tasket" helped boost both her and Webb to national fame. After taking over the band when Webb died, Fitzgerald left it behind in 1942 to start her solo career.

Taito's one of those classic corporations that, over the years, has been responsible for a lot of great games. The crown jewel of the Taito empire is Space Invaders, but the company's catalog goes much deeper than that.

Rockpalast 1: 2nd February 1977: At the time of this first Rockpalast appearance in 1977, the band was between albums. This was after Outside the Law, and the post-USA split. Cliff had finally returned from his road trip to Kathmandu, by way of Afghanistan (learning more about the country than Bush and Blair ever would), and he needed to get back to work. Although he managed to get the original line-up (Jackson, McGillivray, Kolbe, Walz) back together, events got in the way of things, with Jim McGillivray leaving after another of the robust disagreements that characterised this period of the band.

Rockpalast was a WDR (Cologne) show produced between 1974 and 1986, and revived again in 1995. The show was originally produced by Peter Rüchel and directed by Christan Wagner, and was famous for staging gigs with the leading bands of the day. The three concerts preceding Epitaph's first Rockpalast appearance were with Todd Rundgren's Utopia, Leo Kottke, and Ry Cooder. Epitaph first hit the Rockpalast stage on February 2nd 1997, and were followed that year by artists like Kate & Anna McGarrigle, Chicago, Harry Chapin, Tom Waits, Tom Petty, Rory Gallagher, Little Feat and Roger McGuinn's Thunderbird. Although two of the founder members, Cliff Jackson and Jim McGillivray, were Brits, and the lyrics were English, Epitaph was definitely a German band. As such it was quite amazing that Epitaph made it onto what was in effect Germany's answer to The Old Grey Whistle Test…

Schubert composed his first five symphonies while still a teenager, but they represent just one facet of his prodigious fluency. At this time some of his musical ideas bear a family resemblance to certain themes from Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven, but already his own musical character is evident. He began his Second Symphony in December 1814 and had finished it by 24th March the following year.

The fine Germans at MIG (Made In Germany) bring you a classic Rockpalast (Rock Palace) UFO performance. Rockpalast is a world renowned German television series that began airing performances on their show in 1974 on the German television station Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR). The recordings are available in CD and DVD format. UFO’s rocking performance was filmed on November 29, 1980 at Westfalenhalle in Dortmund. The band consisted of Phil Moog (vocals), Pete Way (bass), Andy Parker (drums), Paul Chapman (guitar) and Neil Carter (guitar, keyboards). “Lettin’ Go” from No Place To Run, (their first post-Schenker album) gets the show off to a good start. Next up was “Long Gone,” which Moog announced it as a new song. It was featured on their next release, The Wild, the Willing and the Innocent in January 1981.
