Don McLean, (born October 2, 1945 in New Rochelle, New York) is an American singer-songwriter, most famous for his 1971 ballad "American Pie", about an event known as The Day the Music Died (which refers to the deaths of 50's rock & roll legends–Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and Big Bopper).

"Madman Across the Water" is the 4th studio album by Elton John, released in 1971. This was the last album to feature John's regular touring band (Dee Murray and Nigel Olsson) on only a single song. Later band member, percussionist Ray Cooper, makes his first appearance with this album. As with all John songs during this period, the lyrics were penned by his writing partner, Bernie Taupin. This was the last album to be recorded at London's Trident Studios, although subsequent albums would be remixed or overdubbed at Trident. Caleb Quaye and Roger Pope would not play with John again until Rock of the Westies in 1975, following Murray and Olsson's departure from the band. "Madman Across the Water" barely reached #41 on the UK Albums Chart, spending only two weeks there. It has been the lowest-charting album of his career to date. The album fared much better in North America, peaking at #8 on the US Billboard Top Pop Albums and placing at #10 on the year-end list of 1972.

Even before his departure from the Temptations was confirmed, Eddie Kendricks had started working on the suitably titled debut solo venture All by Myself (1971). So, while the Temps were continuing to own the charts with the early-'70s soul epics "Ball of Confusion," "Psychedelic Shack," "I Can't Get Next to You," and "Just My Imagination (Runnin' Away with Me)," the combo's co-founder had already maneuvered his escape. The album's ultimate lasting power can be found in the ageless grooves laid down behind Kendricks, courtesy of the Detroit-based Motown house band the Funk Brothers. Luckily, All by Myself was created while the soul and sonic spirit still dwelled at Hitsville USA's Motor City headquarters. Within 12 months, the entire operation would relocate to Los Angeles, thus concluding the label's seemingly perpetual stream of classics from the self-proclaimed "Sound of Young America" hit factory.

An odd album, one of two the duo did in 1971. This one yielded no hits, but included an interesting version of "Baby (What You Want Me To Do)" and a remake of "Tell The Truth," from their first album. It was otherwise prototype Ike and Tina, but Tina didn't sound so enthused and Ike wasn't generating much magic behind her.

"Greatest Hits" is the 11th official album release for Elton John, and the first compilation. Released in November 1974, it spans the years 1970 to 1974, compiling ten of John's singles, with one track variation for releases in North America and for Europe and Australia. It topped the album chart in both the United States and the United Kingdom, staying at #1 for ten consecutive weeks in the former nation and eleven weeks in the latter. It was the best-selling album of 1975 in the United States, and is his best-selling album to date, being his first to have received an RIAA diamond certification for US sales of more than 10 million copies – as of April 2016 the album has been certified for 17 million units in the US. It remains John's best-selling album and one of the best-selling albums of all time, with 24 million copies sold worldwide.

HEAVEN was a short lived jazz rock band from Portsmouth formed around the year 1970. The nine member group featuring five members in the horn section made their live debut at the Isle Of Wight festival after which they were approached by a record label CBS Records who at the time specialized among other genres for brass rock. The group only released one double album on said label which can be recommended to fans of bands like early CHICAGO or BLOOD SWEAT & TEARS, combining progressive brass rock with a more accessible blues sound.
