Along with Connie Francis, Brenda Lee was one of the most popular and iconic female stars of the enthralling musical era which followed the explosion of rock n roll in the mid-50s, when the pop music landscape underwent an extraordinary transformation. Like Connie, Brenda was a hugely versatile performer, renowned for her powerful voice, which belied her diminutive stature, and able to deliver driving rockabilly or soulful country ballads with equal impact. She established a substantial and committed international fan following, which, as she successfully made the seamless transition from pop to country superstar, enabled her to enjoy a lengthy and highly successful career that has lasted over half a century.

"Brenda Russell" is the self-titled debut studio album by American singer-songwriter Brenda Russell, released on 25 July 1979 by A&M Records on the Horizon label. The album peaked at #20 on the Billboard R&B albums chart. The album was written almost entirely by Russell and produced by Andre Fischer, who was fresh off of a stint as drummer for Rufus. The single, "So Good So Right", reached ##8, 15 and 30 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary, Hot Soul Songs and Hot 100 charts, respectively.

Brenda Russell's angelic voice is so engaging and pleasing that she could sing the ingredients in a Bon Appetit recipe and still get off a good take. Her voice is perfect for contemporary pop, not too light or too heavy, and while appreciated by her peers, she's far from being a household name despite a strong cult legacy. Greatest Hits summarizes Russell's best, featuring only ten songs, while showcasing her other skills: producing, musicianship, arranging, and drum programming. The best of the greatest include "Piano in the Dark," a slightly funky "Dinner with Gershwin," and romantic flights "If Only for One Night," and "Le Restaurant."

"Get Here" is the 4th studio album by the American singer/songwriter Brenda Russell. Released in 1988, it is Russell's most successful album to date and includes her hit single "Piano In The Dark" as well as the minor hit title track, "Get Here," which became an international success for Oleta Adams three years later. One of the sexiest singers on the Motown label, Brenda Holloway was also one of its grittiest, with a strong gospel influence more typical of Southern soul than the company's usual polish. Best known for her ballad hit "Every Little Bit Hurts," Holloway also recorded (and co-wrote) the original version of "You've Made Me So Very Happy," which soon became a hit for jazz-rockers Blood Sweat & Tears. Holloway was born in Atascadero, CA, in 1946 and grew up in the Watts section of Los Angeles; as a child, she learned violin and began singing in church with her younger sister Patrice (who later became a prominent session singer and contributed vocals to Josie & the Pussycats).
