Well, this is something serious Hendrix collectors have been waiting for. Band of Gypsys famously played a total of four shows 12/31/69 and 1/1/70 at the Fillmore East (two shows each night). This is the complete first set from the first night; their debut live show. Although the original Band of Gypsys album was compiled from the second night, it wasn't because there weren't amazing performances to choose from on the first night. The first couple songs are a bit rough around the edges, but when Jimi goes deep blues with "Hear My Train a Comin'," he really starts feeling it and turns in an absolutely amazing version (that's why it was previously released on Band of Gypsys 2 and Live at the Fillmore East). "Machine Gun" is another stunner…
31 years after their first album ("Strade di città" in 1993), after having collected over 250 million audio/video streams, with the long-awaited reunion in Sanremo last year and a tour from May to September 2023 saw over 100 thousand spectators present, Articolo 31 release their new album of unreleased songs. Titled "Protomaranza", it marks the duo's return in style and represents a new chapter in their history.
Since 1991, a complete edition of all recordings in which Karlheinz Stockhausen has personally participated is being released on compact discs. Each CD in this series is identified by Stockhausen's signature followed by an encircled number. The numbers indicate the general historical order of the works. Stockhausen realised the electronic music and participated in these recordings as conductor, performer, sound projectionist, and musical director. He personally mixed down the recordings, mastered them for CDs, wrote the texts and drew the covers.
This brand new compilation in the ever-popular series is again a very special collection of eighties disco funk classics, packed in a luxury Super Jewel Box. As usual in the series this is a collection of rare tracks and 12-inch versions of hard to get but still highly in demand recordings, some of which have never been compiled on CD before. Included are fine tracks by the likes of: J.J. Johnson, The Cool Notes, Catch, Carl Sims, and many more gems of the eighties.
Hold on to your hat, we're coming in strong with one from the Windy City that'll have you movin' and shakin' from start to finish. DAVE'S PICKS VOLUME 31: UPTOWN THEATRE, CHICAGO, IL 12/3/79 signals a true rebirth of the Grateful Dead, reimagining classics and foreshadowing their 80s sound. This is as much in part due to freshly-minted member Brent Mydland bringing the organ back in as it is to Jerry finding new vivacity with his custom Tiger guitar. New guy, new guitar - it all makes for a heck of a good time!
31 Years Of Obscurity is the first ever standalone best of release from LA indie stalwart the black watch. Songs are collected from over 13 different record labels and will leave you wanting to hear more from the band's rich music catalog.
