Includes the Independent Chart hits Banned From The Pubs (No.10), Run Like Hell (No.2), Zombie Creeping Flesh (No.2), Blown Out Again (No.40), Rotting In The Fart Sack (No.3), Wimpeez (No.8) and Key To The City (No.19). Also features later 45s including Supermodels, Smiling Through The Tears (featuring Die Toten Hosen vocalist Campino), Im Getting Pissed For Xmas (a duet with G.B.H.!) and Crap Californian Punk Band (featuring Lars Frederiksen from Rancid). The booklet contains images of each release, many of them now rare and expensive for Punk collectors, plus a detailed narrative on each release. As good mods, the Jam always had a healthy respect for R&B and soul even the first album featured the revved-up Northern soul of "Non-Stop Dancing." With The Gift, however, Paul Weller seems to have become completely absorbed in it, and more specifically, in Stax-style soul with more than a hint of psychedelia à la "Psychedelic Shack." An uneven album marked by overindulgences like the instrumental "Circus" and unnecessarily long songs, The Gift still has no shortage of terrific songs, like the simply sublime "Ghost," "Town Called Malice" (the hit), and the funk workout of "Precious."

7th March 2023 marked the 40th anniversary of the release of one of the all-time great debut albums, The Hurting by Tears for Fears featuring the hit singles ‘Mad World’, ‘Change’ and ‘Pale Shelter’. I have remixed the album for the occasion in Dolby Atmos, 5.1 surround and instrumental stereo, all fully approved by Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith. The Dolby Atmos mix is available for streaming on supported platforms, but the 5.1 and instrumental stereo mixes are included (along with the Atmos mix) on a standalone blu-ray audio disc issued by Virgin/UMR and exclusively for sale via Super Deluxe Edition. The blu-ray additionally features the original stereo master. As if that wasn’t enough my stereo mixes of two recently rediscovered earlier recordings of ‘Mad World’ & ‘Watch Me Bleed’ made at sessions with producer Mike Howlett prior to the album versions will also be exclusive to the blu-ray. These tracks were found on the multitrack reels, possibly having never been mixed before. Even Roland and Curt had not heard them for 40 years!
