This five-CD box set collects all five of the Dave Brubeck Quartet's Time series recordings: Time Out, Time Further Out, Countdown: Time in Outer Space, Time Changes, and Time In, with bonus material attached to three of the discs. Of this quintet of recordings, the latter three have never been available on CD in the United States. Recorded between 1959 and 1965, each of these titles has a distinct relationship to "time travel" in the context of jazz. Brubeck, Paul Desmond, and company were consciously trying to extend the time-space continuum in jazz, and erase the boundaries of imposed four/four signatures in the idiom…

It had been nearly 40 years since Dave Brubeck's last solo piano recording when he recorded this relaxed set. Brubeck sounds typically creative yet often wistful on the seven standards, four originals, and a "Tribute to Stephen Foster." This is a fine addition to Brubeck's extensive yet consistently satisfying discography.

The Last Set at Newport is a 1971 live album by Dave Brubeck and his quartet recorded at the 1971 Newport Jazz Festival, shortly before a riot ensued. The album peaked at 16 on the Billboard Top Jazz Charts. The album was reviewed by Scott Yanow at Allmusic who wrote that "The Dave Brubeck-Gerry Mulligan quartet is heard in a very inspired performance at the Newport Jazz Festival, just a short time before a riot by the audience closed the festival. These versions of "Take Five" and "Open the Gates" are memorable, but it is the extended "Blues for Newport" that is truly classic." Yanow wrote that the musicians "…constantly challenge each other during this exciting performance, making this set well-worth searching for."

At 91 years old, Dave recorded peerless takes on best-known children's songs, beloved standards, and originals as a gift to his grandchildren and as his last studio recording. His playing, ingenuity and integrity, all hallmarks of great Brubeck recordings, are abundantly apparent on this album.

AVID Jazz here presents three classic Dave Brubeck albums plus , including original LP liner notes on a finely re-mastered and low priced double CD. For our latest in a mini series of tributes to Mr Brubeck we have chosen three albums that are vastly different from the experimental album that became the all time classic Time Out (featured on AMSC998). On two of our classic albums, “Southern Scene” and “Digs Disney” Brubeck has mainly chosen southern folk songs and spirituals and of course music from the wonderful world of Disney!

25th Anniversary Reunion marks a special event for the Dave Brubeck Quartet. Founded in 1951 by the pianist with alto saxophonist Paul Desmond as his lead soloist, the group disbanded in 1967 so Brubeck could focus on composing sacred works. Their reunion with bassist Eugene Wright and drummer Joe Morello, the rhythm section that had gelled for good in the late '50s, was a special occasion, as the quartet toured the U.S. extensively. There were plans to record at the March 12, 1976, concert in Fort Wayne, IN, but Morello noticed a problem during an Interlochen performance and learned he suffered a detached retina, something that caused him to leave the tour immediately, with Dan Brubeck stepping in to fill his big shoes for the remaining concerts.

Compiled by the man largely responsible for the 'acid jazz' movement [a tongue in cheek answer to 'acid house'!], Jazz Juice was Gilles Peterson's first series of compilations made when he was still in his early twenties. The selections across these eight volumes were lovingly compiled and came to represent what was to be a resurgence of interest in all things 'cool' in jazz in the eighties, when jazz was brought to the club dancefloors via DJ sets for the first time and lost Afro-Cuban & Latin Jazz, rare grooves and Blue Note releases were keenly revived. Miles Davis, Art Blakey, Sergio Mendes, Jon Hendricks, Marcos Valle, Woody Herman, Dave Brubeck, and more..
