Deep Dark (2015)

This album is the first for Code I. As part of a university project, he has been given the task to create an album in a specific genre, this being post rock/ambient. Stripping down conventional pop and rock music, Code I has created relaxing melodies, epic builds and dark tonal elements that will appeal to any post rock fan.

One Shot was created in 1999 by keyboarder Emmanuel Borghi and guitarist James McGaw, both Ex-Magma musicians. The original duo was completed by bassist Philippe Bussonnet and drummer Daniel Jeand'heur for their first self-titled record, released in 1999…

Massive electric Miles from the same Japanese tour that gave the world the Panagaea and Agharta albums – tracks that were recorded ten days before the concert that appeared on those records, with different songs as well! The music is a dark brew of funk, fusion, and some surprisingly spiritual currents – thanks to wonderful work from Sonny Fortune on alto, soprano sax, and flute – working here alongside guitarist Pete Cosey, who provides plenty of the fuzzier, freakier moments of the set – as does keyboardist Reggie Lucas! Al Foster's drumming is wonderful – and Michael Henderson's bass will blow you away if you only know his later smoother soul albums – but as usual, Miles is the star once he opens up his horn and steps into the darkness.

Portuguese pioneers Moonspell first brought the dark flames to their native country - and then set the rest of the world aflame with milestones such as Irreligious or Night Eternal. Indeed eleventh studio album Extinct erects another monument to sundowns and those dark hours and lets Fernando Ribeiro's sombre vocals collide with modern riffing, blackened melodies and operatic grandeur. Always one step ahead of the rest, always resisting all genre boundaries!

Pearl Jam entered Seattle's London Bridge Studios in March 1991 to record their debut album, Ten. Drummer Dave Krusen left the band in May 1991 after checking himself into rehabilitation and was replaced by Matt Chamberlain, but after just a handful of gigs Chamberlain left too and was superseded by Dave Abbruzzese, who played the rest of Pearl Jam's live shows supporting Ten. Released on August 27, 1991, Ten contained eleven tracks dealing with dark subjects like depression, suicide, loneliness, and murder.

Ulvesang classify themselves as a blend of acoustic, ambient, atmospheric, black, neofolk, neoclassical, and even metal. They are a three piece instrumental acoustic guitar group who are inspired by spiritualism, paganism, nature, and melancholy. Multiple layers of acoustic guitars build a dynamic whole, with subtle drones and chants adding to the already immense atmosphere. Ulvesang has created a chilling debut album…
