Blues credibility doesn’t get any deeper or more real than Robert Lockwood Jr. On Delta Crossroads, the 85-year-old Delta bluesman lays out a heartfelt homage to the immortal Robert Johnson, his guitar teacher, close friend, role model and possibly step-father. Playing the acoustic 12-string guitar and singing with uncommon authority, Lockwood delivers unaccompanied, bone-chilling renditions of Johnson classics like “32-20 Blues”, “Stop Breakin’ Down Blues” “Mr. Downchild”, “Love In Vain Blues” and “I Believe I’ll Dust My Broom”, along with authentically earthy readings of Leroy Carr’s “Mean Mistreater Mama” and “In the Evening”, Lightnin’ Hopkins’ “C.C. Rider” and “Key to the Highway”, which Lockwood says was written by Jazz Gillum and not Big Bill Broonzy, who usually gets credit. This purely acoustic offering is a rich tribute and a must for Delta fanatics.

Quite often, a work becomes a journey of discovery towards a certain origin, translated into sound. Martin, Mansurian and Dvořák composed three such colourful works for piano trio – voyages of discovery taken here by the Delta Piano Trio through scintillating sound worlds. When an Irish-American benefactor asked him to write a work based on Irish folk songs, Martin grasped this as an exquisite opportunity to combine two of the quests occupying him at the time – music from distant cultures and rhythm. His Trio sur des mélodies populaires irlandaises (1925) is a complex, mature and multi-layered score.

Swing City Sessions #4 by the Delta Jazz Band delivers a lively and infectious collection of jazz standards, brimming with the vibrant energy of classic swing. The band's tight-knit ensemble playing and spirited improvisations capture the essence of the jazz era, offering a captivating listening experience filled with rhythm, sophistication, and exuberance.

Ambient legend Gier Jenssen goes back to basics on 'Inland Delta', improvising on an arsenal of reconditioned vintage synths and mimicking Vangelis, Tangerine Dream and Jean-Michel Jarre.

If you mix every colour of paint together, you end up with black. Similarly, the darkness in the music of Lera Auberbach (b. 1973) consists of every imaginable shade of colour, from pitch darkness to dazzling light.

'Delta Kream' celebrates the band's roots and features eleven Mississippi hill country blues standards that they have loved since they were teenagers, before they were a band, including songs by R. L. Burnside and Junior Kimbrough, among others.

JESUS ON THE MAINLINE is drawn from two 1971 concerts; April 14th, 1971 in Tacoma, Washington, and November 5th, 1971 at the Gaslight In New York, which would prove to be the final recording of the Delta Blues legend. The bottleneck guitarist was 67 years old when these tracks were recorded and his passion and conviction seem to have strengthened with the years. At this point in McDowell's career he had shifted to playing electric slide guitar. Accompanying McDowell's gruff voice, the guitar often seems to finish the singer's sentences for him; it's like listening to an old married couple.
