Countless wealthy people in eighteenth-century Europe developed a passion for botany. This passion went far beyond the simple pleasure of gardens, reflecting rather a growing fascination with the natural world. German composer Georg Philipp Telemann shared this passion and energetically cultivated his collection, often begging friends and correspondents to send him specimens. The creative landscape of Telemann's life was undoubtedly filled with floral and musical colour.

John Rutter is one of the most iconic figures of English choral music today, a symbol of its vitality and high standards. Graham Ross brings together the Choir of Clare College, Cambridge (the celebrated choral institution that the composer himself directed in the mid-1970s) and The Dmitri Ensemble to pay homage to this great gentleman of modern musical history with a wide range of his works, some of them recorded here for the very first time.

Alone in his workshop, the sculptor Pygmalion shapes a statue of incomparable beauty, to the point of falling hopelessly in love with it. He then implores Love to bring his creation to life, and, moved by his pure devotion, Love grants his wish. With Pigmalion, Rameau crafted his finest opera-ballet, showcasing the full brilliance of his genius to depict the transformation from marble to flesh and the passionate quest for love. Alongside this, Antoine Bailleux's version offers a fresh and novel interpretation of the myth. Camille Delaforge and the ensemble Il Caravaggio deliver a brilliant performance, unveiling the full evocative power and refined elegance of Rameau's style.

Since its inception, the Le Beau Ensemble has specialised in the works of the composer from whom it takes its name, Luise Adolpha Le Beau (1850–1927). Le Beau left behind more than 65 works with opus numbers in almost all genres: songs, choral music, piano pieces, chamber music, symphonic works, a piano concerto, two oratorios and the fairy tale opera The Enchanted Caliph. This debut album features songs with chamber accompaniments alongside the programme’s major work, the Piano Quartet, Op. 28.

"Bach never heard his music played in this way but it is hard to imagine that he would have found the experience unacceptable. The original works from which this programme is drawn are all instrumental and, since the essence of the music is in the lines and their interplay, there is no obvious reason why they should not be entrusted to the matched sounds of a brass ensemble. Indeed, as the annotator points out, no particular instrument(s) is/are specified in the case of Die Kunst der Fuge, so these items cannot even be termed arrangements; the rest are taken from the organ works. The Laubin Brass Ensemble, impeccably accurate in all respects, makes a majestic (if minimally varying) sound, a finely balanced fabric in which each individual thread is easily traceable if one so chooses…This is a very acceptable and revealing way of listening to this music and even if you are not a brass enthusiast you may care to add BWV541, 598 and 631 to your Bach stock, for there is no other present recording of them on CD—and this one is lifelike in the extreme."
