The Orchestre de Paris is a French orchestra based in Paris. The orchestra currently performs most of its concerts at the Philharmonie de Paris.

My late, lamented colleague, Michael Oliver, would have exulted at the prospect of reviewing this hardly-ever-heard example of verismo, a genre (like so many others) of which he made a speciality. Ponchielli’s last opera appears never to have been recorded before, and has received few performances, even in Italy, after its comparatively successful première at La Scala in 1885.

French violinist Clement Janinet composes music for quartet inspired by the lyricism of the free jazz melodies of the 60s (Ornette Coleman, Phoraoh Sanders, &c.) and the timbral and rhythmic textures of repetitive music (Steve Reich, Philip Glass, John Adams, &c) in several quartet configurations including bass clarinet, tenor sax, bass, drums, guitrar, and cello.

This little-known French band from Paris was formed in 1994 by bassist S. Fred, drummer Didier Pegues and keyboardist Philippe Benabes. In September of the same year Pascal Mocaer joins on bass and Fred switches permanently on vocals and keyboards, while Eric Savarino will complete the first line-up on guitars. The following year ADN had a good live activity, performing next to Galaad, Arkham and Cafeine, while in 1996 a sixth member was added, it was female violin player Elise Bruckert. Around this time the band members were feeling mature enough to compose material for their debut album, which was delayed several times due to the numerous line-up changes.
