SoulMusic Records' top-tier stewardship of Dionne Warwick's catalog continues with Sure Thing: The Warner Bros. Recordings 1972-1977, a six-disc package that neatly fits beside the label's likewise comprehensive Déjà Vu: The Arista Recordings 1979-1994. Warwick was positioned for success with Warner. With seven masterly Top Ten pop hits spanning seven years to her credit, the singer had left Scepter Records to sign what Variety reported in 1971 as the most lucrative recording contract signed by a female artist. Warner rolled out the proverbial red carpet. Despite the involvement of Burt Bacharach and Hal David, the songwriting/production team behind all of those Scepter smashes, 1972's Dionne got the era off to a slow start. A bad omen of sorts was that its one charting single was neither produced nor written by Warwick's then-seemingly inseparable partners (who soon split).

With a total of 40 Pop chart hits, Dionne Warwick's recordings for the Scepter label rank as arguably the most successful run of any artist - and certainly of any female artist - for an independent label during the 1960s. But all that success had a downside for her considerable legacy: Scepter became a hot property for acquisition, and as a result the label's holdings were bought and sold several times before Dionne herself arranged to buy her own masters back. By that time, though, the Scepter tapes had been scattered in disarray, thus leaving a lot of material in limbo and causing compilers to throw up their hands. Odds & Ends - Scepter Records Rarities offers 26 hard-to-find tracks (plus some bonus promo spots) from the Scepter vaults, including rare alternate versions.

"Friends in Love" is Dionne Warwick's 3rd studio album for the Arista label. It was recorded during the winter of 1981-1982 and was released that spring on April 14, 1982. The LP was originally issued as number AL 9585 in the Arista Catalog. The album rose to #87 on the Billboard album chart, selling approximately 200,000 US copies. Songs on the album include the title track, a duet with singer Johnny Mathis, which made the Top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart at #38, in addition to charting on the Billboard R&B and adult contemporary charts at #22 and #5, respectively. A follow-up single, "For You", peaked at #14 on the Adult Contemporary chart. This album also contains the Cynthia Weil / Barry Mann song "Never Gonna Let You Go", which would become a hit the following year for Brazilian musician Sérgio Mendes.

Dionne Warwick is an American singer, actress and television show host, who became a United Nations Global Ambassador for the Food and Agriculture Organization, and a United States Ambassador of Health. Having been in a partnership with songwriters Burt Bacharach and Hal David, Warwick ranks among the 40 biggest hit makers of the entire rock era, based on the Billboard Hot 100 Pop Singles Charts. She is second only to Aretha Franklin as the most-charted female vocalist of all time, with 56 of Warwick's singles making the Billboard Hot 100 between 1962 and 1998 and 80 singles making all Billboard charts combined.

Very, very few artists have reached the heights attained by Dionne Warwick and the songwriting/production team of Burt Bacharach and Hal David on their historic string of hit singles for the Scepter label. Over the course of a little over ten years, Dionne scored no less than 40 charting Pop hits and 29 charting R&B hits for Scepter, propelling Dionne to a ranking second only to Aretha Franklin among female singers with the most chart hits in the rock era, not to mention five Grammy nods. More importantly, Warwick, Bacharach, and David brought a new level of sophistication to popular music…and by doing so, created some of the most indelible recordings of all time.

"No Night So Long is a 1980 album by the vocalist Dionne Warwick. It was her second album for the Arista label (originally issued as # AL 9526). The album was recorded during the spring of 1980 and was released that July. It has sold over 500,000 copies in the US alone. The album's title track, "No Night So Long" was written by Richard Kerr and Will Jennings, the same team that wrote Warwick's 1979 comeback hit "I'll Never Love This Way Again". Isaac Hayes and Adrienne Anderson contributed another song, "We Never Said Goodbye" (the duo had provided Warwick with "Deja Vu" in 1979 from her previous album "Dionne"). The title track is one of two U.S. charting songs from the album, reaching #23. The other hit, "Easy Love," peaked at #62. Both songs were also hits on the Adult Contemporary chart. "Easy Love" peaked at #12 and "No Night So Long" spent three weeks at #1. This album was reissued on CD by Nippon/Phonogram-Arista in Japan in 1986, but only 500 copies were pressed.
