Though they have both passed on, their highly influential recordings are still enjoyed by fans and studied carefully by aspiring acoustic guitarists and folk singers. Doc in particular is considered to be one of the most important flatpick guitarists of the 20th century, and his fingerstyle playing is also highly regarded. His son, Merle, who excelled at guitar and banjo, had served for many years as his father’s accompanist.

Rick Shea cut his teeth in the bars and honky-tonks of San Bernardino and his songs reflect the folk, country, rock and Mexican influences he grew up with there. The Town Where I Live, Rick's latest album, emerges from that world of haunts, hard choices and dusty rock & roll. With country twang, a gospel touch and driving guitars, it's an album of lost roads, lost dreams and long rambling goodbyes. Shea says he comes from the Dave Alvin school of folk music, a school that includes Woody Guthrie, Howlin' Wolf, Curtis Mayfield and Chuck Berry to name just a few. ''Songs tell our stories and our history and songs were how those stories were shared in the past, I'd like to continue that tradition.'

The Blues and Memphis are joined at the hip. The rich history of musicians who passed through this modest river town is nothing short of stunning. The Lovelight Orchestra is no exception. A ten piece band of veteran Bluff City musicians with resumes ranging from rock legends like Paul Rodgers and Gregg Allman to blues masters like Mose Allison and Bobby "Blue" Bland. The group's repertoire draws from the gospel and swing influenced rhythm and blues of the 50s and 60s. The band consists of John Nemeth on vocals, Joe Restivo on guitar, Tim Goodwin on bass, Earl Lowe on drums, Gerald Stephens on keys, and a five piece horn section that includes Marc Franklin, Scott Thompson, Art Edmaiston, Jason Yasinky, and Kirk Smothers.

Named the Un-Concert by Zappa himself, the various live recordings featured on this CD come from a host of venues played by Frank and his then-mothers during their 1973 tours of the US, Canada and Australia. In large part recorded between June and December that year, Mother Superior Frank then chose to provide WLIR-FM New York with his own reels to broadcast this selection of rare diamonds across the airwaves on New Year s Eve 1974. The results are quite astonishing as can now be heard on this CD, featuring the entirety of the Zappa reels as were transmitted on that now legendary radio show. Featuring the kind of audio quality Zappa himself would always insist on, this remarkable collection of tracks features the superb musicianship of Frank Zappa, Jean-Luc Ponty, Tom Fowler, Ralph Humphrey, Ruth Underwood, Ian Underwood, George Duke, Bruce Fowler and Sal Marquez, who in unison make for possibly the most accomplished group Zappa ever employed.

Despite the name, Fujiya & Miyagi are neither Japanese nor a duo. The electronic trio of singer and guitarist David Best, synth player Steve Lewis, and bassist Matt Hainsby are deeply indebted both to vintage '70s Krautrock and the '90s bands that were themselves influenced by the likes of Neu! and Kraftwerk, from Stereolab and Broadcast to Aphex Twin and the Orb. The group started in the coastal city of Brighton, England in 1999, when Best and Lewis first met in a pickup football game. Taking their name at random from Mr. Miyagi in The Karate Kid and a brand of stereo equipment, Best and Lewis recorded their first album, Electro Karaoke in the Negative Style, as a duo, releasing it on the Tirk Records label in 2003. In preparation for touring behind the album, Best and Lewis formed a full-band iteration of Fujiya & Miyagi, including bassist Grunder and drummer Matthew Avery.

Celebrated Aussie musician Mark Seymour has compiled a new retrospective full-length album celebrating 30 years of songwriting ahead of embarking on a six-date national tour from late June. Roll Back The Stone 1985-2016 collects Seymour's best-known and best-loved works — yes, including Hunters & Collectors favourites such as Throw Your Arms Around Me, When The River Runs Dry and the evergreen Holy Grail — re-recorded and reimagined with his current backing band, The Undertow. The album was laid down over three nights in the Scrap Museum, at Richmond's Bakehouse Studios, and draws on the complementary talents of instrumentalists Cameron McKenzie (guitars), Peter Maslen (drums) and John Favaro (bass) to imbue Seymour's songs, no matter their physical age, with a renewed sense of purpose and immediacy.
