Berlin, 1945. L’Armée Rouge fait tomber les derniers bastions nazis dans la capitale allemande. De nombreux prisonniers sont capturés. Parmi eux, Heinz Linge, majordome d’Adolf Hitler, et Otto Günsche, son aide de camp. Ces deux personnages, fidèles parmi les fidèles, ont vécu aux côtés d’Hitler, depuis la fin des années 1930 jusqu’à son suicide en 1945. Pendant ces années, ils ont pu observer le Führer au quotidien, et ont appris à le connaître intimement. Apprenant l’arrestation de ces deux hommes, Staline, qui a toujours été fasciné par Hitler, y trouve une occasion de découvrir les secrets de son ennemi intime, de mieux comprendre sa personnalité et les raisons qui l’ont amené à prendre ses décisions, tant sur le plan militaire que politique. Staline ordonne alors au NKVD de soumettre sans relâche ces deux prisonniers à un interrogatoire minutieux, exhaustif. Linge et Günsche sont interrogés pendant plusieurs années dans les geôles soviétiques. En 1949, leur témoignage permet d’établir un rapport ultraconfidentiel, réalisé en un seul exemplaire à l’attention personnelle de Staline. Son but : éclairer la personnalité, les actes et la psychologie d’Hitler…
