This smoking organ trio recording is both a first for guitarist Larry Coryell and a return to his roots. More than 40 years after moving to New York City from Seattle, Coryell comes full circle back to his roots with this inspired organ trio outing. And in the stellar company of Yahel and Wertico, he is pushed to some exhilarating heights on these nine tracks.

For a brief period at the end of the 1960s and the start of the '70s, Blood, Sweat & Tears, which fused a rock 'n' roll rhythm section to a horn section, held out the promise of a jazz-rock fusion that could storm the pop charts. The band was organized in New York in 1967 out of the remnants of the Blues Project by keyboard player/singer Al Kooper and guitarist Steve Katz of that group, and saxophonist Fred Lipsius. The rhythm section consisted of bassist Jim Fielder and drummer Bobby Colomby, and the horn section was filled out by trumpeters Randy Brecker and Jerry Weiss and trombonist Dick Halligan.

Hohner Ensemble's 4th release, Far More Drums, brings an exotic collection of drums, gongs, and numerous handmade percussion instruments for a full, rhythmic and dynamic set. This percussion ensemble is of exsisting and former students of Dr. Robert Hohner, who has been Director of Music at Central Michigan University for 15 years.

Originally a product of Britain's new romantic movement, Depeche Mode went on to become the quintessential electro-pop band of the 1980s. One of the first acts to establish a musical identity based completely around the use of synthesizers, they began their existence as a bouncy dance-pop outfit but gradually developed a darker, more dramatic sound that ultimately positioned them as one of the most successful alternative bands of their era.

Following the success of Word of Mouth Revisited, the critically acclaimed and award winning 2003 release on Heads Up International, the Jaco Pastorius Big Band has crafted a second chapter in their ongoing tribute to the brilliant legacy of the bassist/composer/arranger from whom they've taken their name. The Word Is Out!, an album that features an array of guest artists-not only on bass, but on a variety of other instruments.

Drummer on Vince Guaraldi's "A Charlie Brown Christmas" LP and the TV soundtracks, cited in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as one of the inventors of psychedelic music, pioneer in world-jazz fusion and electro-acoustic percussion in the hippie era, founder/co-director of the music department at Boulder's Naropa Institute in the '70s, longtime associate of Mose Allison, Jane Ira Bloom, Glen Moore, Dave Friedman etc., and with a string of wide-ranging projects under his own name in the last 20 years, Jerry Granelli has been on the scene for so long - as percussionist, teacher and bandleader - that there may be a tendency to take him for granted.

Tony Malaby is an excellent, progressively inclined tenor and soprano saxophonist, possessed of an expressive tone, formidable technique and fertile imagination. On Apparitions, his second album as a leader, Malaby fronts a band consisting of the ultra-talented bassist Drew Gress and a pair of dynamic drummers, Michael Sarin and Tom Rainey. Sarin and Rainey work hand-in-glove, and Gress is melodically and percussively inventive. Indeed, the band at times seems like a percussion quartet, so concerned are they with rhythmic interaction. This is no bebop album. It’s avant-gardish, but not impenetrable, making it easy to recommend to the serious listener, regardless of his or her stylistic inclination.

Recorded in 1993 but only released in 2005, two years after his death, it's a mystery why this sat in the vault for so long. Here the Nigerian master drummer collaborates with Sikiru Adepoju and Muruga, and the results are as good as anything he released in his prime during the 1960s…

In the follow-up to her debut trio recording, "So Glad To Be Here", pianist and composer Leslie Pintchik returns on her second SACD "Quartets" with two different quartets. The powerful band-mates from her debut album return - Scott Hardy on bass and Satoshi Takeishi on percussion. Added to the mix on the new release are the superb - and deservedly acclaimed - saxophonist Steve Wilson, as well as the exceptional drummer Mark Dodge. The project, which once again features Pintchik's strong original compositions, as well as three unusual arrangements of well-known standards, packs a rich array of feeling into 56 minutes.
