“Symphonic jazz - picturesque, romantic, at times rhythmically involved, at others minimalistic and harmonically abstruse,” is how Allmusic describes Eberhard Weber’s ECM debut from 1974, calling it an “ambitious”, “and influential work”. On the record, the bassist is joined by the cellos of the Südfunk Symphony Orchestra Stuttgart as well as his band of Peter Giger and Ralf Hübner on percussion, Ack van Rooyen on flugelhorn and Rainer Brüninghaus on piano and synthesizer. The album won the Deutscher Schallplattenpreis in 1975.

"Encore" is a companion volume to "Résumé", the widely-praised 2012 solo album from bassist Eberhard Weber. Unable to play bass anymore due to a stroke he suffered in 2007, Weber pored over the many live recordings made between 1990 and 2007 during his tenure with the Jan Garbarek Group. He isolated his unique electric bass solos from shows in 13 European cities and meticulously edited, rearranged and modified them with additional keyboard parts he played himself. He put the finishing touches on the material joined by an old friend, Dutch trumpeter and flugelhorn player Ack van Rooyen, who played on Weber’s album "The Colours of Chloë" more than 40 years ago.

Eberhard Weber's first record remains his most well-known and influential. An ambitious work of what might be called symphonic jazz, The Colours of Chloë helped to define the ECM sound – picturesque, romantic, at times rhythmically involved, at others minimalistic and harmonically abstruse. Weber at various points combines strings, choir, synthesizer, and small jazz ensemble. It's a brew that can bring to mind some of the progressive rock and fusion of the era, although Weber's vision is a good deal more idiosyncratic than that.

Stages of a Long Journey was recorded in Stuttgart in March of 2005, as part of a celebration of both the 20th anniversary of the Theaterhaus Jazzstage festival and as a 65th birthday celebration for bassist Eberhard Weber. Weber was asked to pick a number of his own compositions, rearrange them by writing new charts for the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra, and select his own band as well. Weber picked on former and current bandmates such as Gary Burton, Jan Garbarek, Rainer Bruninghaus, Marilyn Mazur, Wolfgang Dauner, Reto Weber, and human beatbox Nino G., and carefully chose material from his own catalog and pieces he had performed on in their initial recordings.

Of all of Eberhard Weber's classic albums Yellow Fields is probably the most likely to appeal to the average prog fan. First of all because it opens with "Touch", the most "symphonic" piece Weber has ever recorded without using an actual orchestra: a lush, stately, moving instrumental ballad with gorgeous mellotron, and with the main melody played in unison by Charlie Mariano's lyrical sax, Rainer Brueninghaus's synth and Weber's own plangeant bass. "Touch" is utterly delightful, a major highlight in Weber's oeuvre.

Although with Fluid Rustle, Eberhard Weber continued to draw upon the Watership Down references that cast 1977’s Silent Feet into such lovely relief, I hesitate to call it program music. Neither are the titles mere frames; they are also the open windows within those frames. Like the rabbits in Adams’s novel, each instrument in “Quiet Departures” is its own vivid personality in a vast warren of possibilities. Such strong metaphorical ties are there to be unraveled, one fiber at a time, by every strike of Gary Burton’s vibes. The introduction of Norma Winstone (in her first non-Azimuth ECM appearance) and Bonnie Herman represents an exciting tectonic shift in Weber’s geology, urging us through an atmospheric tunnel. At its end: a brightly lit solo from Burton, swaying comfortably in Weber’s hammock.
