"Contemporary Soul Jazz" is probably the best way to describe Elmar Frey's music. This brand-new septet presents bluesy and melodic compositions played with a lot of verve, underpinned with a rich groove and peppered with cheeky brass arrangements.

Dietrich Buxtehude was not only the greatest organ virtuoso of his time and a celebrated composer of both sacred and secular music; he was also a highly enterprising and innovative artist with a unique ability to form networks around himself. This CD, conceived by Theatre of Voices and Paul Hillier, gives a rare insight into the circle around Buxtehude – a musical circle of time, place, friendships, teacher-pupil relationships and even family ties; a network of excellent composers from northern German musician families, all of whom worked in or migrated to Scandinavia in the course of the 1600s.

The best-known piano studies are the 27 by Chopin, most of them composed in the 1830s. But Chopin did not create the genre: a number of prominent pianist-composers had already established the piano study, or étude, in the decades before Chopin sat down to write his. Although this repertoire is as good as unknown today, it is a treasure-trove of miniature jewels, many of them announcing the dawn of Romanticism in their combination of Classical delicacy and a new harmonic warmth.

In seiner Studie fokussiert er sich auf das Pendeln aus Tschechien, Slowakei und Ungarn nach Österreich in der Central European Region als exemplarisches Beispiel für neue Facetten der Ost-West-Mobilität in einem Europa nach 1989. Anhand einer Kombination aus quantitativen und qualitativen Methoden präsentiert der Autor wichtige Bewertungsdimensionen des Lebens im Kontext des Pendelns aus Sicht der Pendlerinnen und Pendler. Ferner demonstriert er, dass das Ost-West-Pendeln subjektiv sehr positiv bewertet wird, trotz einer Vielzahl negativer Arbeitsmarkterfahrungen.
