Hoewel hij de rock & roll niet heeft uitgevonden was hij wel de eerste superster van het genre en bracht hij deze muzieksoort naar een groot publiek. Veel te jong, maar hij heeft wel een oeuvre nagelaten dat de popmuziek voor altijd heeft veranderd en artiesten tot op de dag van vandaag weet te inspireren.
