Emilie Lebel

Emilie Mover was born in Montreal on a snowy November evening. She grew up in Toronto until moving to New York City in her teen years, where she began singing jazz with her father, Bob Mover, a renowned saxophone player familiar to jazz clubs on either side of the 49th parallel and overseas. Emilie has been singing in that scene professionally for half of her life.

Le bébé de Brigitte (Lost in Translation) is alto saxophonist-composer Darius Jones’ new album, and the 5th installment in his expansive Man’ish Boy epic. The highly acclaimed series began in 2009 with Man’ish Boy (A Raw & Beautiful Thing), and shall eventually comprise nine albums. This release arrives soundly at the mid-way point with aplomb, and is performed by the Darius Jones Quartet featuring vocalist Emilie Lesbros.

Happy Feet is the third album by the Canadian jazz singer and voice actress Emilie-Claire Barlow. It was released in 2003. For Juno award winning singer Emilie Claire Barlow, there never was a Plan B. No day jobs or fallback plans in case music didn’t work out. “I’ve always been a singer,” she said. “I just knew that’s what I was, who I was and what I was always going to do.” It has been so much in her blood from the start that the Toronto born jazz vocalist and arranger remembers that she learned to read music around the same time she learned to read words. “It was part of our language,” Barlow said, remembering childhood trips to recording studios with her parents, drummer Brian Barlow and singer Judy Tate.

The Lume Project is the result of a collaboration between classical saxophonist Émilie Heurtevent and jazz saxophonist David Fettmann. Their friendship inspired them to work together on a shared artistic project that would fuse their musical identities. Their sound worlds quickly showed that they could serve as a bridge between their aesthetics; in particular those of the "colourist" composers such as Claude Debussy and Gabriel Fauré.

Born a year before Richard Wagner and dying two months after him, the apothecary's daughter Emilie Mayer from Friedland in Mecklenburg represents a type of composer who clearly moved away from the foundations of the classical masters and into her own orbit. The artist, who has found a home at cpo, composed eight symphonies, several concert overtures, a piano concerto, songs and a plethora of chamber music. The violinist Emeline Pierre Larsen has already released a highly acclaimed first string quartet album with her Constanze Quartet. She is now beginning a complete recording of Mayer's violin sonatas, in which the classical-proto romantic tone of the revered masters once again crumbles without reverting to eclecticism – a strong talent, whose stature is beyond doubt for convincing and championing interpreters.
