Its title might lead one to think this was a compilation, but it wasn't rather, More Hits by the Supremes is merely a valid presumption of its worth. It was also the original group's third highest charting album of their five years on Motown, and came not a moment too soon. The Supremes were doing incredibly well as a singles act, but not since Where Did Our Love Go had any of their LPs done particularly well on the pop charts; even a well-intentioned Sam Cooke-tribute album recorded early in 1965, which ought to have done better, had only reached number 75 (though it had gotten to number five on the R&B LP charts).

Cheval Fou gave a first whinny as a French rock trio around the frontman and a guitarist named Michel Peteau in 1970. Michel had got pretty impressed by European Rock scene, especially the Who, and strove to make a similar impact by playing guitar, that could be crystallized as an incarnation of Heavy/Psych/Krautrock movement by three talented underground musicians in Paris - Jean Max Peteau (guitar, bass), Stephene Rossini (drums), and Michel (guitar, saxophone). Cheval Fou had recorded some material from 1970 until 1975, that had not released in their active days. Fortunately a short-lived French independent label Legend Music compiled their material and released in 1994 (and this compilation has been reissued and rereleased via Psych Up Melodies in 2011)…

Domenico Cimarosa’s Le astuzie femminili was presented with success at the Teatro dei Fiorentini in Naples on 26 August 1794. The libretto by Giuseppe Palomba is a rewriting of Giovanni Bertati’s Amor rende sagace. Bertati, who succeeded Lorenzo Da Ponte as imperial poet at the Habsburg court in 1790, had furnished this text to Cimarosa for a composition staged in Vienna during the previous year, in the wake of the triumphant success scored by the composer and the librettist with Il matrimonio segreto.
