After Eric Rohmer completed his "Six Moral Tales," and before launching into the "Comedies and Proverbs," he tackled two projects very different from anything else in his career. In the first of these, The Marquise of O, based on the novel by Heinrich von Kleist, Rohmer leaves the young intellectuals of Paris for Italy during the Napoleonic wars. This DVD has a pod like design. You 2.0 is a short film, to keep things moving and interesting and not waste your time. It’s designed to be something you can show to someone who knows nothing about life hacking, GTD, or any other weird terminology and they’ll finally get it. And if you already know all about that stuff, you’ll still get something out of it. The rest of the DVD is extended interviews with both people in the film and not in the film. It’s cut down into individual pods on different topics by each speaker. And the cool thing is you can sort the pods by speaker or category.

Russian soldier Alyosha Skvortsov is granted a visit with his mother after he singlehandedly fends off two enemy tanks. As he journeys home, Alyosha encounters the devastation of his war-torn country, witnesses glimmers of hope among the people, and falls in love. With its poetic visual imagery, Grigori Chukhrai's Ballad of a Soldier is an unconventional meditation on the effects of war, and a milestone in Russian cinema.

First shown in 1956, O Dreamland is a low budget 'solo' by Lindsay Anderson about a fun fair. It's the type of pop-culture subject that almost anyone can make a little film about. But Anderson turns Margate's gimcrack, fake world of scary Dreamland into a metaphor for the shabbiness of modern life. Rather than appearing frightened, Anderson's characters are caught off-guard, sheep-like and bewildered, assaulted by a barrage of coarse images of death and frivolity.

A squirrel who forgot to store nuts for the winter, a bear too restless to hibernate, and an evergreen too crooked to be chosen as a Christmas tree form the band of misfits in this animated rehash of a popular Christmas theme (i.e., everyone has value; beauty comes from within).

A fugitive lord and his bodyguards and followers, all disguised as monks, traverse a forest, where they must avoid capture and outsmart the border guards.

Distinguished by being 'banned forever' in its native Czechoslovakia, Němec's film is a masterpiece of barbed, darkly sinister wit. As a biting satire of authoritarianism and conformity and with its astute observations of human nature, the film's universal relevance continues to this day.
