Although Eurovision 2020 has been cancelled, the songs are still there for all of us to enjoy. Shuky & Aviva mainly recorded records in French. Between 1972 and 1978 appeared over 15 singles, which Levi had partly written himself. This two-CD set collects most of Celine Dion's essential recordings from her pre-superstar years, when she was a very young French singer, popular in Canada and France. This set starts with the heavily synthesized Euro pop of the 1988 Eurovision contest winner "Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi," which was the song that introduced the singer to international audiences, and is something of a milestone in her career. Many of the songs on this set are fair, and differ from the processed teen pop of the late 1990s because of the ever-present sincerity in Dion's voice. Highlights include the elegant ballads "Tellement J'ai D'amour Pour Toi," "Benjamin," and "La Voix Du Bon Dieu"; the shimmering "Avec Toi" and "Du Soleil Au Coeur"; and the anthemic "C'est Pour Vivre."
Dschinghis Khan was a German pop band created in 1979 to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest. The name of the band is the German spelling of Genghis Khan and was chosen to fit the song of the same name written and produced by Ralph Siegel with lyrics by Bernd Meinunger. Appearing at the height of the disco boom and following on the heels of other German-produced bands such as Boney M, Arabesque, and Silver Convention, the band achieved wide popularity throughout the world, especially in Europe, Russia, and Japan, though they went wholly unnoticed in the United States. Their songs invariably were themed on historical figures and exotic cultures and locales. Though the group broke up in the mid-1980s, it has enjoyed a recent resurgence in popularity on the internet due to a video of them peforming their hit song Moskau being discovered.
Released in 2006, Best of Hugues Aufray sees the French singer/songwriter perform new arrangements of his most popular hits. Focusing on his '60s and '70s heyday, it includes reworkings of his skiffle/folk singles "Celine," "Santiano," and "Stewball," his 1964 Luxembourg Eurovision Song Contest entry "Des Que le Printemps Revient," and seven of the Bob Dylan covers he became famous for (including "Le Jour Ou le Bateau Viendra" and "Les Temps Changent").
This interesting compilation offers an introduction to the 1970s pop superstars from Sweden. Best 1000 collects a smattering of the quartet's hits, including "Waterloo" and "S.O.S.," along with unearthing forgotten tracks like "When I Kissed The Teacher." ABBA is a Swedish pop supergroup formed in Stockholm in 1972 by Agnetha Faltskog, Bjorn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad. The group's name is an acronym of the first letters of their first names. They became one of the most commercially successful acts in the history of popular music, topping the charts worldwide from 1974 to 1982. ABBA won the Eurovision Song Contest 1974, giving Sweden its first triumph in the contest. They are the most successful group to have taken part in the competition. The group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010.
