Composer Justin Hurwitz became best known for his work with college friend and film director Damien Chazelle, most notably for the La La Land score. Raised in California, Hurwitz came from an artistic family – his sister played the violin and both his parents worked in the arts, his mother was a ballerina and his father a writer. He began playing the piano at the age of six. By the time he was ten, he was composing his own music. In the eighth grade, he and his family moved to Fox Point, Wisconsin where he attended Nicolet High School. While there, the budding composer also studied at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music in Milwaukee with pianist Stefanie Jacob. After graduating in 2003, he continued his education at Harvard University.

This release contains two complete original LPs by Clare Fisher. First Time Out (Pacific Jazz PJ52) received the maximum five-star rating in Down Beat magazine and presents Fischer in a trio format with the splendid Gary Peacock on bass. Our companion LP, Clare FischerJazz (RCA Victor Mexicana MKL-1433) marks Fischer’s debut album as a leader. It is a true rarity and appears here ON CD FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER. The album was recorded in 1961 during Fischer’s visit to Mexico, and showcases him backed by competent local musicians. All but three of the eight tracks from this LP feature the pianist in a trio format!. The repertoire consists of a selection of jazz standards and compositions by Fisher, who arranged all of the tracks. With the exception of “Fascinating Rhythm”, which he has previously recorded with the Hi-Lo’s in 1958, Fisher never recorded any of the tunes from the Mexican album again!!

Out of Season is a studio album by Portishead frontwoman Beth Gibbons and former Talk Talk bassist Paul Webb (under the pseudonym Rustin Man). It was released on 28 October 2002 in the United Kingdom and on 7 October 2003 in the United States. Out of Season is largely a folk album with jazz leanings, with Gibbons and Webb drawing more directly on the influences of Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, and Nick Drake, at which Portishead's work in trip hop only hinted. Out of Season also features contributions from Gibbons' fellow Portishead bandmate Adrian Utley and Webb's former bandmate Lee Harris.
