Analogue Productions (Atlantic 75 Series).Celebrating the 75th Anniversary of Atlantic Records!. Final Velvet Underground album featuring founding member and songwriter Lou Reed. 180-gram 45 RPM double LP
Mastered directly from the original master tape by Ryan K. Smith at Sterling Sound. Pressed at Quality Record PressingsTip-on old style gatefold double pocket jacket by Stoughton Printing. After The Velvet Underground cut three albums for the jazz-oriented Verve label that earned them lots of notoriety but negligible sales, the group signed with industry powerhouse Atlantic Records in 1970. Label head Ahmet Ertegun supposedly asked Lou Reed to avoid sex and drugs in his songs, and instead focus on making an album "loaded with hits." Loaded was the result. It was the group's swan song, with Reed leaving the group shortly before its release. With John Cale long gone from the band, Doug Yule highly prominent (he sings lead on four of the ten tracks), and Maureen Tucker absent on maternity leave, this is hardly a purist's Velvet Underground album. Still, AllMusic gives the album 5 Stars and Pitchfork calls it a "perfect rock 'n' roll record — 40 minutes long, five songs to a side, and not a single wasted note."

Jazzhus Disk is an obscure label from Taiwan that has released several dozen releases and specializes mainly in cool jazz and bebop recordings from the 60s and 70s, in addition to a few stray newer titles. The collector Jazzhus Disk Presents 12 Groovy Tracks Of European Jazz: Rare Jazz, Cool Beats is a cross section of what the label has to offer and should ensure greater brand awareness. The result is a strange, mysterious CD with a track listing that is hard to place and that appears to have been randomly picked from the available catalog. At the same time, it's all intriguing.

When guitarist Bill Frisell first began a more decided focus on roots music, bluegrass and country & western music with the release of 1996's Nashville (Nonesuch), despite being largely very well-received, jazz purists rankled when the largely bluegrass/folk-informed album began to garner awards like Downbeat Magazine's Best Jazz Album of the Year. While Frisell's oftentimes Americana-tinged work has, in the ensuing years, become more fully accepted for the wonderful music that it is, fellow six-stringer John Scofield is unlikely to find himself the subject of such purist criticism with Country for Old Men.

In 1925, Béla Bartók told interviewer Dezso Kosztolanyi that his first instrument was not, as might have been expected, the piano, but a drum he was given at the age of 2. At the age of 4, he was attracted to the piano, picking out Hungarian folk songs with one finger. These twin instrumental influences converged in one of the composer's most remarkable works, the Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion (1937), composed on a commission from the Basle chapter of the International Society for Contemporary Music. Bartók had previously explored similar instrumental combinations: the middle movement of the Piano Concerto No. 1, for instance, is a dialogue between the soloist and percussion. In this work, however, Bartók decided that, for purposes of balance, the percussion section was better offset by two pianos.
