Regional Failure Events in Communication Networks: Models, Algorithms and Applications by Balázs Vass
English | EPUB | 2022 | 133 Pages | ISBN : 3031142551 | 14.6 MB

This book presents a comprehensive study covering the design and application of models and algorithms for assessing the joint device failures of telecommunication backbone networks caused by large-scale regional disasters. At first, failure models are developed to make use of the best data available; in turn, a set of fast algorithms for determining the resulting failure lists are described; further, a theoretical analysis of the complexity of the algorithms and the properties of the failure lists is presented, and relevant practical case studies are investigated. Merging concepts and tools from complexity theory, combinatorial and computational geometry, and probability theory, a comprehensive set of models is developed for translating the disaster hazard in informative yet concise data structures.

The story of Christine Jorgensen, America’s first prominent transsexual, famously narrated trans embodiment in the postwar era. Her celebrity, however, has obscured other mid-century trans narratives—ones lived by African Americans such as Lucy Hicks Anderson and James McHarris.

The Dynamics of Care: Understanding People Flows in Health and Social Care by Eric Wolstenholme
English | PDF,EPUB | 2019 | 323 Pages | ISBN : 3030218775 | 36 MB

This book describes numerous projects which shed light on some of the most persistent issues of the day in health and social care. The work demonstrates the importance of embedding the concept of flow into everyday health and social care thinking and creates insights into patient journeys through different conditions and treatments. It suggests that improving throughput across agencies is the key way to improving the performance of health treatment, whereas increasing capacity is the key way to improving the performance of social care by retaining independent living.

The ensemble of soloists of the Salzburg Wind Philharmonic devotes this CD to Francis Poulenc’s chamber music works for winds. Poulenc – a member of the Parisian group of composers known as Les Six – was particularly fond of woodwind instruments which corresponded with the tradition of his homeland and he created some of the most beautiful works written for wind chamber music. This ranges from the youthful Trio to late works dedicated to Arthur Honegger, such as his Clarinet Sonata, the Flute Sonata and Horn Elegy, and to the entertaining sextet, a declaration of love for his home town of Paris.

In September 1925, seven students gathered in Brussels to form the first composers’ collective in Belgian music history – Les Synthetistes – who sought to distinguish themselves from late Romantic style by connecting with contemporary music. A lack of symphony orchestras in Belgium at the time saw them composing and transcribing original works for wind band, and through their collaboration with Arthur Prevost and the Band of the Belgian Guides, a unique canon of original, modern music could be heard on the Brussels concert stages during the interwar period. This recording provides a resounding response to the injustice of this repertoire’s complete neglect today.
