"All roads lead to The Fisherman's Friends!" So said broadcast legend and long-time fan, Jo Whiley on the BBC's Glastonbury coverage this year just after the boys had sung their Cornish hearts out on the Avalon Stage to rapturous applause from a packed crowd.

Greatest Hits could easily be a nice Deep Purple compilation but this is by Deep Purple & Friends, meaning it features songs by Deep Purple members in other projects along with a small handful of Deep Purple classics. This was released in 2006 by Promo Sound Ltd. with help from MCPS.

With their brilliant synthesis of folk and country, baroque and roll, San Francisco’s Beau Brummels made a major and lasting contribution to the lexicon of American popular music in the mid-1960s. ‘Turn Around: The Complete Recordings 1964-1970’ is the exhaustive overview of their legacy has so long deserved; presenting the band’s classic Autumn and Warner Brothers recordings in definitive fashion.

Woodstock, the defining event of a generation and one of the most iconic moments in popular music history. Despite its enduring cultural significance, no one has ever attempted to document the historic festival as it unfolded in real time. Until now.

Often credited as early architects of the San Francisco sound, the Beau Brummels found success right out of the gate with their 1964 debut single, "Laugh, Laugh." With its autumnal folk-pop jangle and moody melodic hooks, the song bore enough resemblance to the burgeoning British Invasion that many fans mistook these young Americans for invading Brits. Defined by the partnership of Sal Valentino (vocals, tambourine) and Ron Elliott (guitar, vocals, songwriter), the influential group went on to notch a small clutch of mid-'60s hits like "Just a Little" and "You Tell Me Why," while anticipating both the folk-rock and country-rock genres ahead of better-known bands, especially the Byrds. By the late '60s, the Brummels' mainstream popularity had all but died, and yet they went on to release their two best albums in 1967's enchanting Triangle and its 1968 follow-up, the eclectic, countrified Bradley's Barn. A pair of reunion albums were made in 1975 and 2013, but they failed to match the exceptional quality of the group's original 1960s run. That is the period covered here on the exhaustive eight-disc set Turn Around: Complete Recordings 1964-1970, from archival deep-divers Cherry Red Records. Generously padding their five Autumn/Warner Bros. records is an absolute banquet of singles, demos, alternate mixes, and assorted rarities that reveal every facet of the band, from their Baroque and psych-pop leanings to the tight beat-folk of their early days. As the label boasts, this truly is the last word on the Brummels. More often than not, the music is excellent and it's easy to see why the band is still held in such esteem after all these years. ~ Timothy Monger

For the first time since 2003 we are offering our very first CD 'The Pictures Within'. These eleven songs were the basis of all that follows, from the heavy rock of the title track 'The Picture Within' and the progressive intent of 'I'm An Explosive' our origins are here. This CD was originally recorded as a series of Demo recordings, brought about at the request of venues, friends and family. With no budget and limited equipment, we set out to do our best and capture the songs utilising largely live play throughs (many of them!), with very occasional overdubs. It has been mastered for presentation here. The CD was produced with only 50 copies and was never intended for commercial release, it is therefore presented here for free, or pay if you wish. We really hope you enjoy this glimpse into our earliest musical past!
