Bright, lean, and crisp, Embrace, the new recording from vibraphonist Chris Dingman, contrasts strikingly with its predecessors, The Subliminal and the Sublime from 2015 and Waking Dreams from 2011. Both of those recordings were sextet dates spotlighting the leader’s dense, complex compositions. Embrace has the loose, limber feel of a blowing session, albeit one with unusual instrumentation: vibes, bass (Linda May Han Oh), and drums (Tim Keiper); the underrated vibesman Walt Dickerson recorded in this austere context in the mid-’70s, but it hasn’t been well utilized since.

Matt Monro was an English singer who became one of the most popular entertainers on the international music scene during the 1960s and 1970s. Known as The Man with the Golden Voice, he filled cabarets, nightclubs, music halls, and stadiums across the world in his 30-year career. AllMusic has described Monro as "one of the most underrated pop vocalists of the '60s", who "possessed the easiest, most perfect baritone in the business". His recordings include the UK Top 10 hits: "Portrait of My Love", "My Kind of Girl", "Softly As I Leave You", "Walk Away" and "Yesterday" (originally by The Beatles). He also recorded several film themes such as "From Russia with Love" for the James Bond film of the same name, "Born Free" for the film of the same name and "On Days Like These" for The Italian Job.

The harp is the ultimate romantic icon: the instrument of angels, and of Cupid, the god of love. One of the world’s oldest musical instruments, yet one of the most versatile and cherished, its modern counterpart also has the largest range of any orchestral instrument. This extensive collection brings together an impressive range of concertos for harp, contrasting the towering figures of Handel and Mozart with gems by lesser-known composers such as Boieldieu, Albrechtsberger, Wagenseil, Krumpholz, Dussek, Spohr, Reinecke, Pierné, Saint-Saëns, into the 20th century with Ginastera, Lutoslawski and Alwyn.A treasure trove of attractive concertos for that still slightly underrated solo instrument, the harp! A worthy successor to the ever extending series of Instrumental Solo Concertos Editions on Brilliant Classics, previous issues including piano, cello, flute, clarinet, oboe, trumpet, horn, viola da gamba and recorder.

After two full years, almost to the day, I finally received my first return customer. Puerto Rican prog collective Avandra come back to me with their third full-length record Skylighting. A year and a half feels like forever ago, and I guess thanks to the pandemic that time span probably allowed Avandra the same opportunity to write and record a new album properly as they would have within three years of normal band operation. Therefore, the only consideration left is whether or not they put out something worth my time.

David Gilmour is the debut solo studio album by Pink Floyd guitarist and co-lead vocalist David Gilmour, released on 26 May 1978. The album reached number 17 in the UK and number 29 on the Billboard US album charts; it was certified Gold in the US. The album was produced by Gilmour, and consists mostly of blues and guitar-oriented rock songs, except for the piano-dominated ballad "So Far Away". In an interview with Circus in 1978, Gilmour said: "This album was important to me in terms of self-respect. At first I didn't think my name was big enough to carry it. Being in a group for so long can be a bit claustrophobic, and I needed to step out from behind Pink Floyd's shadow."
