This recording, with Leonard Bernstein conducting the New York Philharmonic, was made in 1961. Gould’s performance is thoughtful, nuanced, and not at all eccentric. What’s most striking about his playing is the degree to which he’s able to bring out the individuality of the contrapuntal lines. His performance is extremely graceful. The New York Philharmonic’s sound is warm and full, and the playing is absolutely secure. Gould’s characteristic humming is occasionally audible, but at such a low level that only the purist who demands absolutely clean sound is likely to be offended.

The charm of the Ghoud's Bach is uncovered by Ryuichi Sakamoto in a unique perspective. Glen Ghould, who was sparely left the world at the age of 50, 1982. His Bach playing, starting in the 1955 Goldberg variation, covers the old concept of Bach and established a standard for 20th century new Bach playing with a deep spiritual spirit in a fresh and vivid way. In 2008, it was introduced as a 4-time program on NHK educational TV "Enjoy Knowing My Care" and Ryuichi Sakamoto describe her favorite "Brams: Kataru Katsui Songs", as seen in the show. At the end of the year, Ryuichi Sakamoto has released the best "Glen Gould Ryuichi Sakamoto Selection" (SICC 1109-10) that was selected with their own recognition and given a big topic and unusual sales as a classic. In addition, the program was an unusual encore broadcast in August 2009 as the "Easy to Know: Dedicated to Humanity." The previous "Glen Ghould Sakamoto Ryuichi Selection" has been selected from other works besides Bach, but this time is synonymous with Gourd. The design was completely cooperated by Atsuichi Miyazawa (associate professor of Aoyama Academy University).

There's nothing "English" about the English Suites, except for a story circulating after Bach's death that they were composed for an Englishman. These pieces are larger than Bach's French Suites, for in addition to the usual batch of dances that characterizes the suite form, they also contain a large introductory prelude, or "overture." Gould performs this music–as he does all of Bach–with the crisp style and utter digital clarity that for many people remains the way this music was meant to sound.

Gould’s last phonograph recording with orchestra. After the death of Vladimir Golschmann, on 1 March 1972, he declined to complete his Bach series by recording Concerto No. 6 (BWV 1057) and abandoned his plan to re-record the D-minor Concerto (BWV 1052) in stereo.

The most renowned Canadian classical performer of the 20th century, pianist Glenn Gould remains one of the most fascinating and celebrated figures in all of music, the archetypal riddle wrapped inside an enigma wrapped inside a conundrum. A former child prodigy, his piano artistry was unparalleled, yet he often received less recognition as a virtuoso than as a troubled eccentric; a disconnected recluse notorious for such odd habits as wearing a wool topcoat in the dog days of summer, Gould was a sight to behold even in live performances – seated on a low chair and slumped over the keyboard, humming (sometimes singing) audibly to himself as he played, all the while conducting with his free hand.

At the beginning of the 1960s, Gustav Leonhardt became the figurehead of the Telefunken’s label Das alte Werk, a legendary collection devoted to early music performed on period instruments. The first recordings were mostly dedicated to Bach’s music, the keyboard concertos in particular becoming landmark recordings, emblematic of the harpsichord renaissance. Here are the concertos for solo keyboard, conducted by the newly created Leonhardt-Consort, featuring the best Dutch performers of their generation such as Frans Brüggen.
