Gwendal Locomo

Mägo de Oz es una banda española de folk metal fundada el 7 de julio de 1988 por el baterista Txus di Fellatio en el barrio de Begoña en Madrid. Inicialmente se llamó Transilvania, en honor a la canción homónima del sexteto inglés Iron Maiden, y adoptó el nombre definitivo de Mägo de Oz en 1989.1

Very obscure and unknown, strictly short-lived and super rare to spot, but worth mentioning in the end, Plat du Jour mark a dot on the French eclectic Prog map, somewhere near Rouen apparently, during the year 1977. Their self-titled LP was released under the label Speedball, five compositions (or six, depending on how the first two-part epic is regarded) lasting around 35 minutes. The music can be placed either in jazz-rock, either in avant-prog, but with those two essences clustering and a bit of extra fuzzy psychedelism, cold bass Zeuhl and straight progressive rock being heard, it's wiser to take in account all the nuances.

The only other Seven Reizh album I've heard is 2001's Strinkadenn Ys–one of my five favorite albums from that year. As the band and its composers did so well on that album, there is an attempt to merge and blend the musical traditions of different cultures and ethnicities–here more toward West-East, Celtic and Arabic…
