The Sisters of Mercy are an English rock band, formed in 1980 in Leeds. After achieving early underground fame there, the band had their commercial breakthrough in the mid-1980s and sustained it until the early 1990s, when they stopped releasing new recorded output in protest against their record company WEA. Currently, the band are a touring outfit only. The group has released three original studio albums, the last of which was released in 1990. Each album was recorded by a different line-up; singer-songwriter Andrew Eldritch and the drum machine called Doktor Avalanche are the only points of continuity throughout. Eldritch and Avalanche were also involved in The Sisterhood, a side-project connected with Eldritch's dispute with former members.

The Sisters Of Mercy - Floodland (1987) [Non-Remastered] Music

While the goth scene in England was picking up commercial steam in the mid-'80s, the Sisters of Mercy may have seemed quiet, but they roared back with 1987's Floodland. Opening with the driving two-part hymn "Dominion/Mother Russia," Sisters leader Andrew Eldritch (along with bassist Patricia Morrison) creates a black soundscape that is majestic and vast. While the earlier Sisters releases were noisy, sometimes harsh affairs, Floodland is filled with lush production (thanks to Meat Loaf writer/producer Jim Steinman and the New York Choral Society) and lyric imagery that is both scary and glorious. The slower tracks, like "Flood" and "1959," are some of the best ethereal sounds goth has to offer, and the downright regal "This Corrosion" is one of the best songs of the genre. A definite milestone.

Formed in San Francisco in 1977, Noh Mercy was comprised of only two women: Esmerelda and Tony Hotel. The band's motto was 'No Boys On Guitars' as a reaction against male-dominated rock 'n' roll. They didn't need boys or guitars. They harnessed the angularity of Devo, the punk/poet attitude of Patti Smith, and the art spectacle of Roxy Music, all ground down to a minimalist core of voice and drums. Their only two previously released songs, No Caucasian Guilt and Revolutionary Spy, have long been considered essential recordings within Post-Punk/No Wave collector circles and by fans of other late 70's 'girl' groups, such as X-Ray Spex, The Slits, and The Raincoats. This album contains almost entirely unreleased material, unheard for over thirty years. Recorded by Fluxus artist and electronics genius Tommy Tadlock (Tuxedomoon) during their peak in 1979. As prescient as bands come, Noh Mercy preceded the defiant queer rebellion of Riot Grrrl and the frenetic art minimalism of the early 21st century by decades.

Originally, The Sisters Of Mercy were part of the UK's popular Goth Rock scene of the mid '80s. "Some Girls Wander by Mistake" is a compilation album by English band the Sisters of Mercy. The album focuses on the band's early years, as well as their last officially released studio recordings. It collected the complete and unedited studio recording work of the band from 1980 to 1983: both sides of their first single, "The Damage Done"; both sides of their second single, "Body Electric"; the A-side of their fourth single, "Anaconda"; all tracks on their first two EPs, Alice and The Reptile House; and both sides of the 12" EP edition of their fifth single, "Temple of Love". Also, the Digital versions of the album feature the extended version of "Temple of Love (1992)", in addition to the original extended version, plus several re-mixes.
