Gentle Forest Jazz Band Gfjb (2018)

Three decades on from his recording debut as a leader, and more than four decades since his first professional performance at age 8 in The Moffett Family Band, bassist extraordinaire Charnett Moffett can look back on a storied career. It began at a remarkably young age in the family band led by his father, drummer Charles Moffett; was forged in his formative years in the thriving Bay Area fusion scene; developed along parallel tracks in the classically-oriented classrooms of Juilliard and the hothouse Greenwich Village club scene in early-80s New York City; and has continued to evolve through experiences with iconic artists like McCoy Tyner, Art Blakey, Sonny Sharrock and Ornette Coleman, (Charnett is on his Pulitzer prize winning Sound Museum), along with like-minded peers including the Marsalis family, Kenny Garrett and longtime compatriot Jordan.

Golden Days! is the 1969 album by The Bay City Jazz Band. Taken from recording sessions done in 1957, this was remastered for release in 1991 through Good Time Jazz/Fantasy.

We’re thrilled to present this, our first full length album, with some of our favorite musicians, and the culmination of four years of work! It started in early 2019 with recording sessions not long after the band was formed, but then interrupted by the pandemic. That difficult time became part of our journey, creating and releasing our “Quarantine Tracks” EP in 2021. As the world opened up, we got back to work on this album, with a clearer identity and desire to reconnect with dancers and music lovers. We hope this music gives you as much joy as it was to create. However, Joan Chamorro, director of the Sant Andreu Jazz Band, took advantage of the situation and recorded different rehearsals with small groups at the Jazz House, headquarters of the SAJB. They will be released as Jazzing 11 vol. 2 and Jazzing 11 vol. 3.Finally, it was possible to perform within the framework of the Barcelona Jazz Festival 2020, a concert that was also recorded and that will be released as Jazzing 11 vol. 4.

The legendary Preservation Hall Jazz Band present the soundtrack to A Tuba to Cuba, the critically acclaimed documentary directed by T.G. Herrington and Danny Clinch. The film follows Ben Jaffe of New Orleans’ famed Preservation Hall Jazz Band as he seeks to fulfill his late father's dream of retracing their musical roots to the shores of Cuba in search of the indigenous music that gave birth to New Orleans jazz. A Tuba to Cuba celebrates the triumph of the human spirit expressed through the universal language of music and challenges us to resolve to build bridges, not walls.

New Orleans Vol. III is the 1983 album by the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. The musicians on this release are Willie Humphrey (clarinet), James Miller (piano), Frank Parker (drum), Frank Demond (trombone), Narvin Kimball (banjo), Allan Jaffe (tuba), and Percy Humphrey offering the vocal in "When The Saints Go Marchin' In". This was released on CD in 1987 by CBS Records in Canada.

In 1968, while he was also the leader of the Military Music Departments in Heliopolis, Salah Ragab formed the first jazz big band in Egypt, The Cairo Jazz Band. Some of the best musicians in Egypt of that time were members – Zaki Osman (trumpet), Saied Salama (tenor sax), Khamis El-Kholy (piano) and Ala Mostafa (piano).
