Med Flory has enjoyed both a profitable music career and successful stints as a television and film writer and actor. His alto sax and clarinet work are deeply influenced by the classic bebop sound, notably the playing of Charlie Parker. Though he doesn't directly emulate Parker, Flory's sound, phrasing and approach reflect his reverence for his music. He played clarinet and alto with Claude Thornhill in the '50s, and tenor with Woody Herman. Flory formed his own New York band in 1954, then moved to the West Coast two years later.

Pop music is studded with memorable partnerships, from the Righteous and Everly Brothers in the 60s to the 80s with Blancmange, Soft Cell, Yazoo and Wham! But Go West proved longer-lasting than much of the competition. As well as featuring a track from their 2011 album 3D and six hard-to-find remixes, this 32-track compilation includes every chart entry from their near-decade as international hitmakers. Go West is an English pop duo, formed in 1982 by lead vocalist Peter Cox and rhythm guitarist and backup vocalist Richard Drummie. The outfit enjoyed their peak of popularity between the mid 1980s and the early 1990s and are best known for the international top 10 hits "We Close Our Eyes", "Call Me" and "King of Wishful Thinking". They were named Best British Newcomer at the 1986 Brit Awards.

Craft Recordings announces the release of Go West!: The Contemporary Records Albums, a new 3-LP, 3-CD and digital collection that explores Sonny Rollins’ output for Lester Koenig’s revered Los Angeles jazz label. Newly cut from the original analog tapes by GRAMMY®-winning engineer (and former Contemporary Records studio employee) Bernie Grundman, the 20-track set presents two classic albums from the legendary saxophonist’s catalog: Way Out West (recorded in March 1957) and Sonny Rollins and the Contemporary Leaders (October 1958). Adding additional context are six alternate takes, culled from both albums. Originally released in 1986 on the long-out-of-print compilation album Contemporary Alternate Takes, these tracks allow listeners to hear Rollins and his fellow musicians develop such iconic recordings as “Way Out West” and “Come, Gone."

It's been over 15 years since their last full album, but Go West proves they still have it with their new release FUTURENOW. The duo of Peter Cox and Richard Drummie have a string of hit singles to their name ("We Close Our Eyes", "Faithful", and "The King of Wishful Thinking" to name a few), but their albums have been uneven collections of pop, blue-eyed soul, and jazz infuences that made it hard to really invest yourself in the band.

Just great bebop with great personnel. This is a surprisingly fresh disc featuring what is essentially a west coast style studio band in the 50's lead by arranger, composer and jazz trumpeter Quincy Jones. If you only know QJ as the Motown producer who vaulted Michael Jackson to superstardom, go back a little further. In the 40's he was a jazz trumpeter who played in many fine big bands including Lionel Hampton's alongside none other than Clifford Brown. This disc is an original set of QJ arrangements and compositions recorded when the west coast sound pioneered by Baker/Mulligan and matured by guys like Shorty Rogers and Bill Perkins was all the rage. Includes some of the best studio jocks of the day including Harry "Sweets" Edison. Highly recommended.
