Gotham Dopo Mezzanotte

Germania 1936: due notti indiavolate, trascorse tra feste eleganti e chiassose birrerie. Una diciannovenne come tante e con una gran voglia di ridere si ritrova a decidere della propria esistenza, mentre il rombo della folla, «profondo, roco e un po' stanco», acclama Hitler che sfila in corteo lungo le strade della città. In un tempo in cui il desiderio di vita non può che trasformarsi in necessità di fuga, lo sguardo svagato di Sanna coglie con irriverente grazia intrighi, tragedie, violenze e amori di un'indimenticabile compagnia di resistenti loro malgrado. Incontriamo così il malinconico Franz, con il quale Sanna vagheggia un futuro di tenera libertà, e poi la smaliziata Gerti, con la sua passione proibita per l'ebreo Dieter, e ancora il mediocre scrittore Algin, i cui inoffensivi successi attirano d'un tratto l'attenzione della censura, e il giornalista Heini, fin troppo lucido e affezionato al proprio cinismo..

A meditation on the beauty of nature and the fate of the planet, “This Rock We’re On: Imaginary Letters” is a multi-movement work by the acclaimed composer Mike Holober. Written for jazz orchestra, voice, cello, and percussion, it features art songs set for chamber ensemble that take the form of imaginary letters to or from selected “protagonists” – naturalist authors, artists, and activists who dedicated their lives to appreciating and protecting the earth we inhabit. Each of the vocal works is followed by an instrumental jazz orchestra piece that reflects upon the text of the letter. Recorded and premiered by the GRAMMY® nominated Gotham Jazz Orchestra in June 2023, a double album is scheduled for release on 14th of June 2024.
