The reissue of Eddie Costa's Guys and Dolls Like Vibes once again makes available one of his few dates as a leader. A talented vibraphonist (and also pianist, though he doesn't play it on this 1958 session), Costa leads a sterling quartet with the legendary Bill Evans on piano (although he was just starting to get noticed by the jazz press at the time), Wendell Marshall on bass, and drummer Paul Motian, in a Frank Loesser songbook taken from the musical Guys and Dolls.

Philadelphia native Alexander Courage is famous for co-writing the theme for the original Star Trek TV series with the show's creator Gene Roddenberry. The mid-'60s NBC-TV series went on to become a phenomenon during it's run in rerun syndication and spawned several movie versions and successful TV spin-offs. Raised in New Jersey, he earned a bachelor's degree in 1941 from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY. Courage served a five-year stint in the United States Army during World War II. After the war, he settled in Los Angeles and began working as a composer/arranger for radio shows The Camay Hour and Sam Spade.

Doris Day packed four careers into one lifetime, two each in music and movies. The pity is that all most people remember are her movies, from Teacher's Pet (1957) onward, as the quintessential all-American girl, cast opposite such icons of masculinity as Clark Gable and Rock Hudson. She also transposed this following to television at the end of the '60s with a situation comedy that lasted into the early '70s. Greatest Hits Volume One: The Singles is a greatest hits album by American rock band Goo Goo Dolls. It contains a newly recorded track, "Before It's Too Late", from the Transformers motion picture. The album also contains a newly recorded version of their first hit single, "Name". The album was released on November 13, 2007. The album marks a milestone for the band. It is their first greatest hits album, and at the time of its release, the band's two remaining founders John Rzeznik and Robby Takac had been together for 21 years.
