This is the second leader-session by the acclaimed Norwegian composer and bassist Eivind Opsvik for Fresh Sound New Talent. Since moving to New York in 1998 Eivind has been working on his own compositions and concepts and, in early 2002, he assembled some of his favourite musicians in the city, some of whom he's played with for years and some who are more recent acquaintances, with the intention of doing gigs around the city and to record a CD. In selecting musicians for his band Eivind favoured open-mindedness, individuality and musicians with experience from the free music scene who would give his music a certain edge and energy.
La-La Land Records, Universal Pictures, Amblin Entertainment and Geffen proudly present a Limited Edition remastered and expanded CD reissue of John Williams’ (JAWS, E.T., SCHINDLER’S LIST) original score to the 1989 feature film ALWAYS, directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Richard Dreyfuss, Holly Hunter and John Goodman. Williams’ sumptuous orchestral score gives this touching story of timeless love and miracles an irresistible dreamlike quality – lifting and carrying the film, and its audience, on a musical wind that soars them into a timeless, romantically blissful realm. Maestro Williams also raises the stakes of the film’s riveting firefighting sequences with the kind of expert dramatic action cues that are his trademark.
AllMusic Review "Hunger" by Steve Loewy: This version of the Willem Breuker Kollektief includes highly entertaining vocalist Loes Luca on four of the 13 tracks. As with so many of the recordings by this orchestra, there is a mixture of Breuker originals and an eclectic sample of tunes from a variety of genres. "Yes, We Have No Bananas" is given a unique treatment, with vocals from Breuker, a ukulele solo by trumpeter Boy Raaymakers, and a delightful singing saw exposition by Lorre Lynn Trytten.
Thule certainly did their part in bringing life back into the Progressive music scene in their home country of Norway in the late eighties and early nineties.
The kind of music presented here is quite typically for bands coming from that area rather dark and somber but having as well quite a lot of lively and really freaky moments. Compared to "Frostbrent" and "Graks" sounding more like a type of "progressive goth rock" the songs on here still exhibit some more resemblance to 70's old school prog mostly due to the extensive use of organ sound which is presented in a brilliant way. Apart from that all musicianship is really flawless and especially Peer-Einar Pedersen shines no matter if he plays bass, guitar, harmonica or accordeon. This album is a highly diversified one and should certainly provide many enjoyable spins to both 70's Prog and modern art rock fans.
