This year marks the 50th anniversary of the landmark, four-time Grammy Award winning jazz album GETZ/GILBERTO which single-handedly ignited the international bossa nova craze with such hits as “The Girl From Ipanema” and “Corcovado”. This anniversary celebrate with the release of GETZ/GILBERTO: Expanded Edition. It includes U.S. single versions of the widely popular hits as well as a newly remastered version of the jazz/bossa nova classic album in both mono and stereo, with the mono version making its CD debut and the stereo album in its original left-right configuration for the first time since its vinyl release!

The first of three richly-orchestrated, mostly instrumental albums from the late 1960s by bossa nova pioneer Antônio Carlos Jobim. On "Wave", released in 1967, Jobim explores jazz influences, recording with jazz legends like Ron Carter and Urbie Green and a large string section under the direction of conductor/arranger Claus Ogerman. The album, engineered by Rudy Van Gelder, became an international hit and appealed to both jazz and easy listening audiences.

One of Antonio Carlos Jobim's best-known albums, 1970's „Tide“ is a companion piece to 1967's „Wave“, a similarly lush and smooth collection for producer Creed Taylor's CTI Records. In fact, this album's lengthy title track is a theme-and-variations exploration of the main melodic line from WAVE's title track.

Recorded in 1970 at Rudy Van Gelder's studio in New Jersey under the production auspices of Creed Taylor, the arrangement and conducting skills of Deodato, and the engineering expertise of Van Gelder himself, Jobim's "Stone Flower" is quite simply one of his most quietly stunning works – and certainly the high point of his time at Columbia.

This classic recording, half sung in Portuguese, half in English and supported by the majestic Nelson Riddle Orchestra, prominently features Antonio Carlos Jobim's enigmatic guitar.
