Blues-Rock veterans, the Stoney Curtis Band, returned to the studio in Las Vegas this summer in follow-up to their 2012 double-live release. The resulting CD, Halo Of Dark Matter, is a high-energy collection of guitar-oriented jams, that recalls the stadium guitar heroes of the 70's. This fifth record in Stoney's discography takes things up a couple of notches as his songwriting and soloing skills ascend to yet a higher plateau. The Stoney Curtis Band has been working the clubs between Los Angeles and Las Vegas, for over 10 years, honing their own brand of psychedelic Blues-Rock, readying their show for the road ahead. Over the past few years the band has done a number of USA tours and six European tours as well. Heavily steeped in 60's/70's Psychedelia, the Stoney Curtis Band has translated the energy of their phenomenal live show into an incredible new studio disc containing over 70 minutes of full tilt Blues-Rock.
Moon Halo's debut album "Chroma" comes from the creative minds of Iain Jennings (Mostly Autumn), Marc Atkinson (Riversea) and Dave Clements (Riversea). The album also includes musical assistance from Alex Cromarty (ex-Mostly Autumn/Riversea) and Martin Ledger (Heather Findlay Band). Featuring guest appearances by Anne-Marie Helder (Panic Room), Olivia Sparnenn-Josh (Mostly Autumn), Janine Atkinson (Riversea), Tammy Pawson and Mikey Gibson.
With thirteen tracks over its 60-minute running time, all lovingly crafted, the album has touches of electronica, which is certainly different, however its use is subtle and enhancing rather than being overpowering. There are still plenty of guitars in evidence to rock it up, so nothing to worry about here, rather it is far better to embrace this bold direction and let the music surround you with its elegance and its beauty…
The younger brother of bluesman Eddie Burns, singer/guitarist Jimmy Burns followed in the family tradition, becoming a staple of Chicago's West Side club circuit after a long absence from the spotlight. Born February 27, 1943 in Dublin, Mississippi, he cut a handful of singles early in his career, but upon marrying and starting a family, he largely applied the brakes to his musical aspirations to focus on domestic life. Burns performed only rarely in the decades to follow; however, with his children all grown in the early 1990s, he rekindled his career, following up a hard day of operating his barbecue stand by cutting loose with a set of soulful blues at the Smokedaddy, his regular venue. In 1996, at the age of 53, Burns finally issued his long-awaited full-length debut, Leaving Here Walking. Stuck In The Middle is Jimmy Burns first studio album since 2003 and follows his excellent live set Live at B.L.U.E.S, released in 2007.
