By the mid-70s, Joe Gibbs and Errol Thompson had formed a formidable partnership, which had spawned a multitude of major reggae best-sellers featuring the cream of Jamaica’s musical talents. But while the Mighty Two’s vocal productions have rightly earned widespread praise, the high standard of their dub mixes from the era have received considerably less attention. This 2CD collection addresses this oversight by bringing together 48 of their finest dub works from the reggae sub-genre‘s heyday: 1975 to 1978.

Formed in Queens, NY, in 1955, the Cleftones consisted of five friends from Jamaica High School. In 1961, the Cleftones realized the potential of the sound with their smash hit version of the standard "Heart and Soul"; it became the group's biggest hit, reaching number 18 on both pop and R&B charts. Later that year, the group had another hit with "For Sentimental Reasons," but the band had reached a peak with "Heart and Soul" and were never able to reach those heights again. The Cleftones broke up in 1964, three years after their greatest success.

In October 1990, Lou Reed interviewed Vaclav Havel, playwright, poet, president of the newly emancipated Czechoslovakia, and – surprisingly? – a Velvet Underground fan. During the course of their conversation, Havel handed Reed a book. "These are your lyrics, hand-printed and translated into Czechoslovakian. There were only 200 of them. They were very dangerous to have. People went to jail." Nobody will go to jail for owning Between Thought and Expression, but Reed's lyrics remain dangerous – not, as in Communist Czechoslovakia, for what they are, but for what they say. Deactivating society's most fail-safe mechanisms, he tells secrets, lifts shrouds, and, at his best, depicts a reality so harsh, so harrowing, that it becomes almost fantastical. Nobody could live like that. Nobody could love like that. And, surely, nobody could think like that. Between Thought and Expression, three discs and four hours culling Reed's own personal favorites from a then-25-year career, presents that reality without distraction.

The Beautiful Experience is the 1994 American CD5 by "The Artist Formerly Known As Prince". The CD5 features seven different mixes of "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World", including what would become the hit version. This was released independently on NPG Records.
